What are people in Poland REALLY saying about 'swine flu'?

This flu has a much, much lower mortality rate than regular seasonal flu (and seems most dangerous for those with pre-existing conditions).

No. The mortality rate for the swine flue and normal flu is about the same. For older people the mortality rate for swine flue is a little lower, and for younger people it's higher, than the normal flue.

I've only caught one really bad flu. If someone would have offered me a flu shot before I got it, and I knew how bad it was going to be, I would have gladly taken the flu shot. I can't say for sure it was H1N1, but, it was really severe and it's strange that I would go so long without catching anything and then, suddenly, one that's more severe than average is going around and everyone is catching it, including me. Maybe that's why the cases in the US haven't been as bad, everyone was exposed to H1N1 a few years back? I was suprised they didn't make a big deal about it when it was making the rounds a few years back. It wasn't just your ordinary flu. Maybe most of the world has been exposed to H1N1 by now.

I did see a guy walking around in one of those dust masks the other day. He was walking thru the in door of a grocery store. He did look really silly with that blue bra cup shaped mask over his nose and mouth.

On the Polish news a few days ago, a Polish man said he gets a flu shot every year and never gets sick. But one year he didn't, and he got sick. So he thinks his body gets stronger with the shot, but it's actually the other way around. If you get flu shots every year, your body becomes dependent upon them instead of fighting it by itself. Now this person did not get his flu shot once, and his body was totally unprepared and did not know how to fight back, so then he got sick.

Flu shots weaken the body's immune system.

If you are interested, here Kopacz (Polish Health Ministry) explains why they didn't buy vaccines for A/H1N1 (yet). It is translated, 10 minutes movie.

She is quite convincing I must say... : youtube.com/watch?v=RhZesZe33cw

Poles are aware of the position near the border. I know a girl from Przemysł and she is a little concerned about going back having heard a few tales.

However, there is not much said about it generally and the response has been swift and effective.
