In the US it is said a mafioso goes to chuch three times: WHEN HE'S HATCHED, MATCHED AND DISPTACHED.
How widespread is that brand of Catholicism in today's Poland? This is sometimes called cafeteria Catholicism or decorative Catholicism -- you pick and choose only that which is attarctive, pleasant and palatable -- nice weddings with all the trimmings amid organ music, flowers, candles, elaborpate ritual, stained-glasss windows, etc., but reject anythign that poses a challenge, requires sacrifice and alturism.

I think the nature of the modern world is pushing people away from altruism, instead favouring competition against neighbours and believing that moral law isn't always worth following.

There is a hardcore who will maintain all traditions and follow them to a tee but they are dwindling. After all, it is said that 40% of 'Catholics' here don't actually practise. That suggests suit-me, suit-me ways and selectivism.

What I have found is that most can't even separate spirituality from the teachings of the RCC.
