i once went to a new year's eve party with nutters running around with lit fireworks in their hands ... the little English girl in me was asking 'but ... but ... you're not allowed to go back to a lit firework! and where is the fire-proof biscuit tin??'

That sounds like the Sylwester that I spent in Krakow a few years ago... broken bottles, drunken people running around with fireworks. To my knowledge nobody got hurt.

Yeh they drink obscene amounts of vodka then the brothers who havent spoken for years finally have it out and one big vodka fuelled family scrap ensues. Grannies hitting grannies, dads and mums all swinging for the opposite sides of the family.
well there's a known case of Poles playing russian roulette with an automatic pistol.. it had to be a hell of a party, oh the fun..
