Hi,
Does anyone know the best place or a website for buying a computer system in Poznan?

Maybe Media Markt? Can have a sale or sth. The little mom and pop shops might be pricy. Maybe you can try Ebay too. Good luck.

My recommendation - just buy a Mac.
You can run anything.

just buy a Mac

Especially if you're an artist. Mac's rule.

I think the most popular auction service in Poland is Allegro.pl.

Maybe here komputronik.pl

Buying Computer in Poland

HI,

I'm moving to Poland next month.

Can anyone advise me if it is better to buy a Laptop here in the USA and bring it with me or buy one in Poland?

Thanks,
David

Thanks for answering Grzegorz. Can you tell me why it would be better to buy in the USA?

Definitely, buy a computer in the US (if you're still in the US and can bring one with you). Because in the US computers are cheaper than in Poland at about 20%. Laptops are cheaper about 40%.

Alot of it is tax - you can save a bit of tax by buying in Switzerland too

One other question. Laptops have Wi-Fi for internet connection I believe. Are the places (towns, villages,) in Poland where I could not get connected.

In Poznan there is "Znak" shop. I've bought there my own computer, although it was in Warsaw. As I checked it, they've got similar prices to the 'computer market' ('giełda komputerowa' in Polish). They have website, znak.pl, but I don't see English version :-/.

And of course allegro will be cheaper, but you know how it's running.
I hope it'll be usefull for somebody.

if Polish is not your mother tongue, get your computer in North America. it will all be in English, and not have to get all the software to make changes. Just get "programmers polish" online for your keypad... and your set.

Does anyone have a HP Pavilion Laptop they use. I'm wondering if it is a good one to buy. I've read the HP Compaq's are not so good but haven't read any reports about the HP Pavilions.

Excellent point nauczyciel. Polish is not my mother tongue..........but I am learning it:-)

pcmag dot com has some recent hp pavilion laptop reviews from January and May 2007 that may help.

J&R in NYC at jr dot com is a pretty good place to buy online for cameras, computers, etc. We've bought from them pretty regularly over the last five years and been happy with everything we got from them and their prices are reasonable, especially when they have either the free shipping or the free J&R gift card promos.
