Russian "sponsors",
Gotta love the Palace of Culture. Beautiful Architecture.
Are they going to remove that communist relic (palace kultury) or not? That thing in the background looks just...awful.
not Warszawa citizens decided that it should stay
it'll take the prize from Złotte Tarasy for the most kitch building in post communist poland ;) (award and survey given and done in £ódsz) don't remember when exactly - Oct-Nov at some designer's fair.
Slick, I agree with you that the pałac is not the prettiest building in all the world, but this thing is worse!

Złota 44...
in Wrocław sb started new project ... I think it is nice one
odra tower, poland
odra tower, poland
why does poland want to change into america? no offence to american friends, but the wonderful old world charm of Poland and the rest of Europe are being orn to shreds! :(

But variety is the spice of life. Ask many people what they think of modern architecture and they turn their noses up, but somewhere like London, they build the gherkin (Swiss Rey tower) and amongst all the old and the new buildings in the skyline, it fits in perfectly and it didn't take very long at all for it to become loved and cherished. As long as the old and the new can stand side by side without disrupting eachother, it's all good.

I dont know if it looks so bad ...
Sky Tower in Wrocław...

True, but do you think the above monstrosity is going to fit nicely without disrupting the rest? It will dwarf everything else around, not only the Pałac!

Złotte Tarasy
Beside the train station in Warszawa? I have looked at it through Google Maps / Google earth, and wondered "WTF?"
Beside the train station in Warszawa?
yes
apparently 40% of people who took a survey at the designer's fair voted for it as most kitch building.
Sea Towers in Gdynia
Ok these are nice pictures but when are they going to build all those skyscrapers?

maybe you are right I just wanted to present how it looks ...
Personaly I like "stary browar" in Poznan ;) It is considered as the most bueautiful tradecenter of mid size all over the world.
I have to go there tomorow and buy sth for Chrismasts ;)

2-4 years.
These skyscrapers look intersting, but having watched Superbad last week I think some ideas from the movie would be great!
I'm sure tourism in Warsaw would skyrocket :)

i agree - stary browar tries to fit in with the rest of the old-world charm in Poznań - and succeeds 100%

Sea Towers in Gdynia
Saw them under construction this past summer. Clearly visible from the dock where the battleship is anchored. Apparently, condo units are quite expensive in those towers...
Battleship.JPG
Ok but these are pictures from large cities such as Warszawa, Wroclaw, Poznan, what about the country side? Nothing has changed there. No sign of modernization. :(
Furmanka
you know some time ago only Warszawa was developing ... now other big towns joined (Poznan, Wrocław. Krakow, Gdansk, Gdynia even Lodz) so we are going in good direction ... and in smaller towns progres is noticable as well
I think you would like it to be true ... but sory it isnt ...

Skyscraper in every village ?
You are right but Poland needs a lot more investments if we want to catch up with the western europe.
