Aye. I am sure you're right. But would that be a reflection on Ireland or Poland?

i suppose both

if football crowd reflects on general public here's my list based on watching international matches.
1. Ireland
2. USA
3. Slovakia
4. Hungary
5. Scotland
6. France
7. Greece
8. Czech Rep.
9. Ukraine
10. Canada

Well on second thught football crowd doesn't reflect probably general attitude as football enemies of Poland are:

1. England
2. Germany
3. Holland
4. Sweden
5. Denmark

i know, i wondered the same thing. I never knew we had a rivalry with Poland when it came to football, usually we just turn up and beat them, thats about as far as it goes :).

On a serious note why would Poland dislike us in the footballing arena??

When did England bottle it for Austria/Switzerland?

usually we just turn up and beat them

OK you said usually....I say 1974.

England is very good second tier European team who's always seeded that is why England qualify for tournaments.

Being someone’s number one rival should give you pride because rivalry signifies respect.

ok fair enogh i guess going back over 40 years is something you have to do as a Polish fan to find a decent result against England :)

England is very good second tier European team who's always seeded that is why England qualify for tournaments.

i would agree with that they are a second tier team however if Poland were good enough so would they.

Being someone’s number one rival should give you pride because rivalry signifies respect.

its true but i don't understand why we are???

When did England bottle it for Austria/Switzerland?

us not being their had nothing to do with bottle, it was the wolly under the brolly that lost it for us :)

us not being their had nothing to do with bottle, it was the wolly under the brolly that lost it for us :)

And Croatia being better

England are a good team thats why everyone wants to play them and on their day they are capable of beating anyone.

Bring back Graham Taylor "you got to go out to come in....."

Soviets or simply Russians?

I guess we (Russians) inherited their love to Soviets. :)

No matter what Enland football current ranking is Poland always would take pride in beating Enland - it has to do with England as cradle of football and some fans animosity reaching back to 1974 (when Poland players were called "monkeys" by one of british tabloids - fact known to many football fans)

On contrary to matches against Ireland visiting English fans on games in Poland are always heavily guarded on and away from stadiums while Polish and Irish are mixing on stadium with no animosity at all. In fact many Poles would cheer for Ireland.

Hard to find any rationale for all this.
Poland fans would cheer on Ireland, USA national anthem played and stay calm on Germany's one. They'd boo on English anthem though.
In personal contacts Poles would show more sympathy to English then to say Scandinavians or Germans. Go figure!

It's understandable...it's hard on the psyche and self-respect to cheer for an adversary one NEVER managed to beat since 1933.

There is a limit to polish masochism! :)

(Even once-in-a-time successes like Grünwald are needed to bolster motivation) He...:)

England are a good team thats why everyone wants to play them and on their day they are capable of beating anyone.

You could say that about nearly every team...nothing special to England!

I've heard from Poles that they dont like to support England because of football hooliganism. A bit rich considering Poland have the worst football hooligans in Europe.

yeah tell me about it, how can you say 'ow we don't like you because you get a bit violent at football matches' when inside your own country not only is there hightened violence at football but it is strongly linked with racially motivated attacks and 'neo nazi' groups. Ok i'm not saying all Polish hooligans are 'neo nazi's' but there is a link

Mind please no football hooligans are attending national team matches. It's present on league level only.

It is very sad, but there is no other nationality than the Polish which has disappointed me the most.

The polish are too worried about what their own people say about them, not even what the English say about them. They believe in the rumours and make them bigger against their own people, I am so sorry about that. They do not need somebody else to make them feel bad, they have themselves.

They are so worried about impress the people with “brands”, behaviour…..material things. I am sorry but you have to see yourself before say that you are victims. Nothing personal, you guys need to see that the people in this world is more worried about other things that if you are here or somewhere else.

However not everybody is the same, I can say that 20% of the polish people is loyal, mature, trustful, without prejudge, open mind*, honest and honest-friends**.

* Open mind…. I am not talking about religion, sex, or other, simple situations like if the girl married somebody because is pregnant, why he or she is not married (dating age range in Poland…???) or if they are coming back to Poland and Hooo my God, they did not achieve anything (what about the experience of survive in a different country, that is a lot) however your own people will think in different way.

** friendly… all poles are friendly, the question is, how many of them are reliable and HONEST because probably they are talking crap in your back.

To be fair, I am not English, I am from Canada and I hear the same opinion from Italians, Spanish, Latin Americans, of course English, Canadians, Americans, :) Poles and so on ..all the time.

I do not wanna change the world; I am jus sorry about the most of the Poles.

how does the history curriculum look like in Germany?

1410:Defeat in Tannenberg
1648:Defeat in 30 years war
1805:Defeat in Napoleon's wars
1918:Defeat in WW1
1945:Defeat in WW2.

Well, this lack of resources always comes forward at the end.

Not to mention the fact that as a result of Thirteen Year's War in XV century the Teutonic Knights and later on Prussia were Polish vassals up until the XVIII century, when unfortunately for us and luckily for them, the tide has turned, to put it mildly. :)

Do you think they learn anything apart the September 1939 campaign on history classes in Deutschland?

I suspect they learn only about the preussian-austrian war in 1863 and the preussian-french war in 1870.

As I said Poles can't let football be just football...it's like a replay of some battles for them!

(To bad they always lose...at least against Germany! *ducks*)
