Looking for lyrics to "Hoo-pai Shoo-pai"... Hupaj siupaj - polka

This was a song (rather comical and bawdy, I believe), that my father and mother used to sing as a duet. My mother just died, and we want to find the lyrics for my father, as he as forgotten most of them. All I remember of it is the tune (which of course I can't transcribe here), and the opening and closing lines (please bear with my attempts at transliteration):

"Hoo-pai shoo-pai, hoo-pai shoo-pai, hoo-pai shoo-pai da-na..."
(about 4 or 5 more lines, and then it ends):
"Hoo-pai shoop!"

Thanks in advance for any information or leads.

Thank you both so much for your efforts. Another member answered my question by private message, sending me links for the lyrics, as well as for snatches of the tune itself (the true title of which turns out to be "List do cara"). If anyone is interested in those links, I will happy to post them.

Thanks, krysia, for the videos; I enjoyed watching all 15 of them. And "Pije Kuba do Jakuba" is a great tune, too (a drinking song, no?).

Rogoza: please post the links for the lyrics. We all sang hoo-pai Shoo-pai when I was growing up. Thanks

maeja, here is the link for the lyrics to "List do cara". It is song #11:

biesiadnik.ostroleka.pl/index.php?go=spiewnik

My dad says that this version is in a slightly different dialect from what he learned in Hamtramck, Michigan, as a kid. He has found someone (nearby where he's now living) whom he hopes can translate it. Maybe you, too, will be able to translate it, and then we can compare notes.

You're very welcome, and please forgive me for not having answered sooner; I just haven't had time to check the site for the past couple of days.

Here's part of it.
So another member sent you the correct song. Isn't that nice. :)
I was right too with the polka but it's a different version.

1. And the cavaliers are already standing at Styr
Already standing at Styr, already standing at Styr
And he's writing to the Tsar, that he's not afraid of him
That he's not afraid of him - hopaj siup

Ref: Hopaj siupaj, hopaj siupaj, hopaj siupaj - dana.
Dear girl, till morning.
I slept on the floor yesterday, today on a pile of hay.
Hopaj siupaj dana, hopaj siup!

2.And he's writing to the tsar with black ink,
Black ink, black ink,
That he's not afraid of him and his whole army,
That he's not afraid of him and his whole army
whole army - hopaj siup!

Thanks so much to all for your continuing efforts to demystify this song. It will be fun to compare the translations when we get them, so I will be sure to let you all know what my father's friend comes up with. In addition, here are the MP3 clips that the other member sent me last week. They are both very short, and both part of the same recording, but enough to correctly identify it as the same tune my father sings:

polandbymail.com/get_item_pncd416_kapela-warszawska-piosenki-legionow- polskich.htm

merlin.pl/frontend/browse/product/4,451689.html

I'm puzzled as to why the two music clips I copied and pasted early this morning from my PF private mailbox into the above message don't turn yellow and clickable like all the others. I'm sure that I did it exactly the same as the one for the lyrics to "List do cara". Is there some sort of trick to it that I'm missing?

I'm also noticing that the first link I copied has an error in it: there shouldn't be any extra space in the part that reads "legionow-polskich.htm".

Sorry if this has caused anyone any inconvenience or frustration.

Krysia;

I am new at this.I am just feeling my way through. Your explanation to to song Hupaj Shupaj is exactly like I remember it when we sang it as kids. I love your (Your tube rendition of Pija kuba.) Is there a way that I can get that on my computer?

Remember that I told you that I was new at this. I have a lot to learn
maybe you can fill me on other songs that I remember.

Tam pod Krakowien Na wojsku

I haven't visited the forum in awhile and thought this thread was dead! So, many thanks to you all (alud, Edzio1981 and nunczka) for the recent contributions--loved the fiddlers in the Pan Franek video (being a fiddler myself...). Wish I could send my dad this video, but he's in assisted living right now, can no longer walk or get around by himself, and can no longer operate a computer.

Thanks again to all of you!
