Hi
I have an apartment in Lodz and am just arranging the fit out. I need to organise buying the kitchen units, white goods, appliances plus loo, bath, sink etc for the bathroom. Any tips on where I should look. I don't speak polish!!

Cheers,
Fiona

Hi Fiona, u might want to try Ikea?
They are reasonable in price and still have goodlooking stuff

Would agree with Dxx..good, reasonably priced stuff in IKEA, Kitchen bathrooms etc. Also, consider Castorama/Leroy Merlin as they are the equibialent of B & Q over here and also sell things like kitchens. You can really get good choice of Bathrrom stuff i.e. baths, showers etc.

If you were buying something off the shelf and taking it with you, i would say that not speaking polish is not a problem.
However, you will probably need to discuss measurements, finishes, delivery etc, when you go shopping so i would recommend you bring someone who can speak polish. Not sure of your contacts but a english speaking student might appreciate a few bob for their services.

There's no Ikea in £ódź, I guess.
Try Art-Dom at Kasprzaka 6 for appliances.

Thanks everyone. That was really helpful. Will Ikea deliver to Lodzthough? Isn't the nearest one in Poznan and wouldn't that be really expensive?

I may have my geography wrong but i think warsaw might be nearer than Poznan. (I am sure someone will correct me) By the way, i see ikea have a new catalogue out so maybe you should try get hold of it to see what is on offer.

Sorry if you are aware of this(as i am sure you are) but there is ahuge Manufactura centre in Lodz and i am sure you could pick up a lot of what you need there. Appliances you can get at any of the electrical stores around the place.

A word of caution against IKEA kitchens. They use Whirlpool which is fine but the Polish have a very poor opinion of the brand - so if you plan to rent to Polish you should probably buy the appliances elsewhere.

Seems alot of hassle though - why not use Mamdom? They've fitted out three of my apartments and I don't have to source a thing. Who are you arranging your fit out with and why can't they get the materials?

Totally agree with eleanoroconner, do not even consider getting into the hassle of fitting out your property by urself. Get mamdom (or a competitor) to fit your place. They usually have extensive models to chose from and are quite flexible.

It really is money well spent.
