Katowice - You must be f..'ing mad, off your tiny brain!!! It's got the lowest property prices in Poland for a good reason - no-one in their right mind would want to live there! It's Wolverhampton, Akron, Kingston-upon-Hull, Essen, all in one ? basically goddamawful,

^_^ I was born and raised in Wolverhampton and am now looking to move to Katowice.

Good job I love Wolves then eh?

Depending on what you like, these are great clubs. You can check them in the internet to see which music they play:

Jazz Club Hipnoza, plac Sejmu Śląskiego 2
MEGA CLUB, ul.Żelazna 9
INQBATOR, ul. Dworcowa 2
Scena GuGalander, ul. Jagielońska 17a

Lesnicówka - Chorzow Park - live bands, mostly meritorious blues groups on the local scene, past and present - notably Leszek Winder among others.

Silesia is the centre of Polish blues as any Poles on the forum will tell you.

What do you think of this city? I hear it is dirty and plain, but besides this - how do you find the people. I am thinking of finding a position in this city. I'd just like to hear some input? Anything that you'd like to say about the city.

Thanks...

A horribly fugly city, used to date a girl from a nearby town and we have set up the first meeting in Katowice, it was horrible, no good restaurants, no city center, no nothing.

Not to mention the greyness, this city can get you down even on a sunny day, horrible place.

I've been to Katowice and really loved it.

It doesn't have much for tourists, but the locals were very nice and hospitable. It's a bit like a Polish answer to Manchester and Mancunians.

I once missed a train connection and had to stay a few hours in Katowice PKP....
A slimy, dark, horrible place reeking of urine and full of horrible drunks crowding around the ATM's because they know these machines "produce" money.

I was ever so happy to be able to hop on the EC back to Warsaw.
I know most PKP stations are pretty depressive but Katowice was a place apart.
Maybe it changed since 3 years ago... I hope so for the locals...

For the past 9 years I've been visiting every few weeks for business. Sure it isn't Venice, but the people are friendly, the shops and bars are cheap, and as the centre of a conurbation, there's a really bustling feel with everything one could need. And the people there (and service in shops, hotels etc) are somehow pleasanter and nicer than in most of Poland. The analogy that someone made to Leeds has some truth. Similar ambience, though Katowice has a much bigger centre and fewer sprawling suburbs.

Worth trying some of the other cities in the Upper-Silesia Metropolitan Area. Each has its own distinct character.
