Where to find BEEF in Warsaw ?

Hi there,

I've been there for one month and I wasn't able to find a butcher who sells beef. I like Polish food, Pierogi, Kotlet, Zurek and stuff, but still I miss good red meat...

Do you guys know any butcher / any shop where I could find good and not too expensive beef (I'm not interested in restaurants as it's for home cooking) ?

Cheers.

The short answer is nowhere. Even the best restaurants have trouble finding good quality beef which isn't expensive.

The best steak in Warsaw can be found in a butchers on Pulawska ... I just can't remember the name or number of it ..
I can , however , give you directions.. so , driving south on Pulawska( ie in the direction of Wilanow ) , when you go past the left hand turn for Idzikowskiego , on your right , just past the post office building & under a big yellow canopy you will find yourself in the best butchers in Warsaw.

find a local abattoir and order a side of beef.

get friendly with someone who works in an abottoir and ask for cuts of beef.

I buy my cubed beef from tesco (the extra special range from the fridge)- it isn't 'so' cheap - about 12zl for a packet, but its really worth it, lean and tasty! I make beef stew with it :)

Based on magdalenaG's deescription, I drove past Pulawska to look for the place. found it and tried buying some beef today. It is located on 176/178 Ul. Pulawska, has a bright yellow canopy. The name of the shop is "MIESO WEDLINY". It is actually located in the corner building between Pulawska & Domaniewska street, on the side of Pulawska.

Besides beef, they have pork, chicken, sausages, ham as well as sauces. Beef I bought was fresh, tasted good and was reasonably priced, although I was not able to learn what cut it was because the staff did not seem able to converse in English.

My boss told me there is a good steak shop on the east side of the river but he did not give me the address yet. Once I have it, will update you all.

If you crave for value-for-money "western meal", try the Alim Decor, one of them can be found on the ground floor in mall Arkadia. It is tuck in the left hand corner of this furniture shop, which is hard to notice. Cuisine is supposedly french but the menu offering seems quite diverse.

Enjoy!
