Do not experiment with Polish medicine if you don't know what it is.

Just a warning to any others who might be as dumb as me.

Having survived a family gathering to celebrate Grandads 90th which ended up with all the "uncles" at one end of the table pissed and all the "aunties" frowning at the other. As the token English relative, the uncles descended on me vodka in hand and in a bizarre form of polish/german/english proceeded to toast shot after shot of Vodka to grandads good health and the deteriation of their own. Needless to say I ended up as drunk as the rest of them.

Anyway as an asthma suffer I have to rely in momments of breathlessness an inhaler. As luck have it I discovered in my brother-in-laws medicine cabinet an inhaler, for asthma...or so I thought.

It was not an asthma inhaler, it tasted of alcohol, very bizarre.
Despite this I had no problems breathing , however I could not sleep and could not understand why after taking the inhaler I felt so restless and sober.

I now realise, I had an adrenaline spray, for bloody anphlactic shock. ADRENALINE, no wonder I could ******* sleep.

So the basic moral is pissed or sober make sure you know what you are taking. Thank God it was only adrenaline.

adrenaline in Polish is "adrenalina" - hard not to undersand, if you had read the label :)

and asthma is "astma" for any future reference

my bathroom cabinet is full of Polish medicine and I dont have a clue what most of it is for, unless there is a picture on the front so I can work it out.. My partner doesnt seem to trust British medication so he comes back from Poland every time stacked with pharmaceuticals. I do think its a bit weird, but hey.. it makes having a headache more interesting. :)

An interesting topic, I was just about to post something similar but along more positive lines. Any women out there use No-Spa for period pain?

Strange - most seems to be a more basic form of Western medicines. And why do doctors here always want to prescribe Rutinoscorbin, to be taken almost by the handful? Even other doctors will admit among friends that it's useless.

You wouldn't use an inhaler for anaphylactic shock, you'd need an intravenous or intramuscular injection.

Besides, adrenaline has a half-life of only a few minutes, so it's no use as a long-lasting stimulant.

Are you sure you didn't take ephedrine? That lasts for hours, so it has a little more abuse potential. lol. :)

its strange - the first time i lived in poland i was diagnosed with pneumonia as well as a heart murmer, both of which resulted in considerable worry and time off work... so i decided to fly back to the uk and have my GP check me out... his diagnosis was considerably less worrying...

maybe it wasn't adrenaline...you are probably correct...but it was definately a stimulant. I have an epi pen myself which remains in the medicine cabinet...stupid really but hey that me...stupid
