Hi All,

Looks like all the shops are starting to sell out of flowers and candles for this years remember the dead day. I have never been in Poland for one as have been away for work on the last 3, but this year i will get to see it. Yes i know it's not a show, but a way for people to remember loved ones, but it seems to me to be a bit comericalised.

Did you go with your parents, what are your thoughts?

The vendors make an absolute killing on the candles.

"The day of the dead" is Mexican, isn't it?
All saints day is a bit different but you get marks for dramatisation :)
Go at night time for the full effect of the candles, the bigger the cemetery, the bigger amount of candles.
It is completely different from Halloween, the grave yard being the last place you go.
It is just the Church adopting a preexisting ceremony.
I do think it is very beautiful to remember your linage and think about death but not in a scary miserable way but in a respectful way with some candyfloss ;)

I was at a funeral here in Poland about six months ago and people were taking photos, this struck me as strange, as in Ireland I have never seen or heard of this.

Usually we take photos of Christening, Communion, Confirmation, Wedding, so I suppose why not follow it true with the person's funeral.
You could make a click book out of the photos.

For visitors to Poland. 1st November:
The best time to visit the cemetery is at night. It can be a beautiful sight and this is when you might come across photographers taking atmospheric photos.

As you travel through the countryside and see the orange glow near the villages, it can also be very beautiful.

I never drive the car on this day. More deaths on the road than any other week-end of the year.

I think Grabiszynek is the largest. Not sure though.
