Love / For all the hot Polish guys out there [73]

Good God woman. You can't be serious...

he is divine... Also on display we have this gorgeous Polish specimen on the far right, from Decapitated (RIP).

Certainly Poland hides some gorgeous metal men, you wouldn't understand though ;]

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

jestesjedyny's comments on page 1 are ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with preference i.e. selectively refusing to date black men, because you do not find them attractive and they put you off. Ok great.

It's when you start to liken them to "sh1t", call them "brownies", and suggest they are all akin to Flavor Flav, that's when you're pushing the boundaries between a close-minded but fair statement and clearly showing how incredibly uneducated you are.

I'm a black girl from the UK, by the way, dating a Polish guy, my best friend is Polish as are my neighbours. I can confirm that jestesjedyny is an anomoly and her opinions, though retarded are, thank god, not common.

You poor thing. I hope you find a way to gain a better understanding of this interesting and huge world we live in.

Good luck x.

UK, Ireland / Polish kids in UK education system [57]

OT:

lol Michal cracks me the F**k up. How do people take him seriously? Lulz

Anywho, my best friend was Polish, she was the one who introduced me to "polishness" and well... I guess I didn't even acknowledge Poland as a country before then.

So anyway, she was very intelligent, articulate, quick-thinking, had been here for about 6 years (we were in college), and she was studying Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Sociology A-levels with me.

She didn't do very well in the written exams due to the fact she was a) dyslexic and b) lost interest (she discovered the circus... I'm not making this up! good, quick, immediate money rather than years more of toiling in university). But she COULD'VE done.

I think Poles are more inclined to work or gain a skill than go into further education in the UK, am I wrong? Probably, most generalisations are wrong.

UK, Ireland / London, not my cup of tea [30]

London is great - the only miserable thing about London is travel and public transportation. But it takes up a minute part of your day, relatively, it's not worth worrying about. Just zone out, read a book (or pretend to), plug in your ipod and stare at the floor whilst walking briskly in straightlines. No criss-crossing, no eye-contact and DEFINATELY don't try to start up a conversation!

Other than that London is just brilliant, I am actually scared of moving away when I go to university. It'll be hard to adjust and I fear I'll come back being one of those people who start threads like this! Heheh

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

Mister H, if Polish and indeed other immigrants were required to pay for public services like healthcare, education, and had no entitlement to unemployment benefits, and only got housing benefits after Brits with more urgent need, do you think then that you would feel more at ease with the immigration situation? And then maybe after a set time (I agree with 5 years whoever said that) of paying NI and taxes, could they qualify for an equal share of the public services for free.

Or even then would the issue of national pride still prevent you from feeling at ease with immigrants from Poland in particular (only because there have been so many in such a remarkably short time period - immigrants from Asia and Africa have been trickling in at a more or lease steady rate since the 1960s and before that, even, so whoever brought that up, that's the main difference between the Polish immigrant debate and others).

So, is the above solution enough, do you think, or is it really a sense of fear and dislike of losing British cultures and traditions amongst an influx of foreigners?

p.s. your original question, why do they come here, I think has more or less been answered, but this is an interesting thread and for the most part, interesting and well-put views from all sides.
