Life / Styles in Poland: What do people wear? [65]

You asked a legitimate question about styles and some people couldn't handle it and replied with smart comments.

Thats one thing ive noticed with some people, how annoying and self-centred they can be!

Don't try and copy them though just to make an impression, your own style is your own style.

I personally wouldn't try to anyway but the person that started off the thread seemed to want to know the fashion so i tried to help her out :)

your own style is your own style.

such a true statement :)

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

Ohh i see, sorry, it's late so my brain ahs slowed down slightly hehe

I find that actually usign a word is the best way to learn it.

I imagine this is quite effective as you force yourself to think constantly, what is the word for this or that etc. and eventually i presume it would come naturally!

It's grammer i struggle with too! I guess i'll just keep struggling for a while with the thought in mind it will become easier! Try out a few new techniques etc!

You need someone around who speaks Polish to be able to make this work though.

That's not always possible i guess, i'll just speak to English friends in Polish, you never know, might even teach them a thing or too, spur them on to learn the language :)

But on a serious note :) yes it is SO helpful with a native speaker particularly grammatically and with pronunciation!

Memory is creating synapses in the brain.I mean long term memory. So how you create a synapse? There are techniques for cramming and memorization

I've studied psychology so believe you me I know the endless techniques of memorisation, encoding, relay etc it's kind of being drilled into me :)

But strictly speaking a synapse is a signal carrier which does not store information just the middle man :)

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

[

i write in a funny way so i am told ... :D but i am understandable

Hehe yes you are understandable! Better to write in a funny way than same old ay!?

my brother told me to do it and it helps .. says each word or phrase three times out loud though before moving onto the next you have written down :)

I will definitley give it a go!

i like a challenge have polish friends mainly

Same reasons as myself i guess!

I once read that people don't see the point in learning Polish as its a "dying" language as such a majority of the young generation in particualr are leaving Poland, but contradictory to this, I can't see it happening as so many Poles move abroad to work/live, which i think is great, (intertwining of cultures, i'll always back it!) therefore i think people of the country Poles are working/living should make the effort and learn Polish, afterall it can only enrich a person knowing another langauge!

Mind you, i guess you will always get the ignorant few that will say
"Why should i learn their language when they are visiting my county!"
I feel sorry for them, but hey thats my opinion :)

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

To learn a language you need to be intelligent. To be able to memorize,do combinations etc

Not to blow my own trumpet :p but I believe i have the intelligence to learn languages but it's also perserverance as telefonitika said that you need.

You don't have to be the brightest button or quickest thinker as people learn at different paces, some faster than others, but eventually if you really work at it and want it bad, no matter how slow of a learner you are, you'll get there :)

My memory is pretty good though! And I 100% agree with the amount of exposure to the stimulus, naturally, without even knowing it things tend to slot into place this way!

I think immersing yourself in the language is the best way.

Totally!

i use determination and perservance really

I guess thats the best recipe to learn anything, with these two things your destined for success! :)
Thats what i'm aiming to do next, string together sentences :/ Could be interesting!

also have a4 sheets pinned up with key words or phrases and highlighted to teach me :) in places in the house ...

What a good idea! Thanks for that one! :)

What was your reason telefonitika for learning the language or did u just fancy it?

I try my best to integrate with them, but unfortunatley for me, a couple of them have just moved back to Poland, mind you, even more of an excuse to visit there i guess! :)

10 years, wow! You must be like it a lot, good for you! :)

How long have you being learning for and wat did you find the best method to learn?
You can say that again!

just the speaking side i am shite on completely

I spoke the odd phrase in Polish when i visited Poland and some people struggled to even understand me! It makes you realise that you really do need a native Polish speaker to correct you!

Life / Trance music (which i love!) seems pretty big in Poland??... [67]

Thanks for the info! Looking at the line-up i think i might just have to go! Toxic Noiz, Tiesto, Van Buuren, i'm feeling it lol

How much are tickets??
I've just seen Van Dyk and Genix recently and seeing Tiesto March 1st, could be a pretty good day seeing him and buying sunrise tickets!

Are they sold out quickly???
Is it best to buy them on the day of release? :)
Oh and any info on hotels/B&B's to stay at prior and post partying in Kolobrzeg??
This might be a silly question but is there and airport in Kolobrzeg? If not where is the best place to fly to?

Life / Styles in Poland: What do people wear? [65]

Wow..what a slap down to all those elegant, properly sized, slim Polish girls..................!!

No 1 Polish girls do go to hair dressers....

No 2 They dont need a tan applied aka...spray on agent orange look-alike...majority have a natural sallow complexion, tan very easily and naturally.

No 3 They seem far less artificial than most UK girls...................at least in the nails department...:)

I hope this was light hearted because my God, by no means was i suggesting Polish girls don't go to the hairdressers, should have fake nails and tan etc my point was don't worry about not being quite perfect going over to Poland, same goes for any country, as nobody is expecting you to be preened like a princess! :)

Properly sized?? What are you suggesting lol

Oh and i also hate fake nails :P

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

I think that you should try to find some course of Polish and learn there at least basic stuff.

I totally agree but I've been trying to find one and it's proving difficult. With German (which i'm learning) i went to classes 4 the basics and God knows how i would of managed it without those classes!

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

I also use an online polsko-angielski dictionary and have a small phrase book coincidently lol which i find really helps, i'll try that one too. I've just recently signed up to a website called interpals and hope to make Polsish friends on there on top of a couple i already have that i used to work with, so i'm glad to hear that that helps! Grammatically, i sometimes find i need something in writing though so say whats what if you know what i mean. But your right, it would be hard without people there to correct you i guess ! :)

UK, Ireland / Some EXAMPLES of salaries of Poles working and living in the UK. [49]

I can see why the statement that it is "vulgar" to discuss earnings or why Brit's just don't do it is made as i recall from a child whenever i would ask "mummy" or "daddy" what they earned they would reply "it's for me to you and for you not to find out" or if i asked another adult what they earned they would laugh and my parents would say "don't ask that, it's their business!" which i never understood as a child, i'd often think "it's only money, why does it matter if i know what you earn, what hurt is it me knowing!?"

I still think this today to be honest. I'm from a middle class family and have no problem with poeple knowing what i do or don't earn! Maybe people are just too proud these days and think that you have to have more money than the next person to be somebody, personally i couldn't agree less! :)

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

I've been learning Polish for about 3 weeks now but have came to a bit of a logger head. I know most of the basic phrases, numbers, months etc and have brought a couple of softwares to progress but none of them seem much good and feel I am wasting my time and money with them.

Does anybody have the names of any softwares/books, techniques or general advice for me!
Much appreciated! :)

Life / Styles in Poland: What do people wear? [65]

I've just came back from Poland and found most of the fashions very similar to the USA/UK highstreet fashion atm. I was also concerned what I was going to wear but I fitted in fine with what i wear here in the UK.

There was the odd extreme fashion that i perceived as different but on the whole i noticed boots with skirts/skinny jeans very popular, black was also a popular colour to wear, especially out of a night, the girls also liked showing off their nicely toned stomachs too hehe

As for alsways looking prestine, yes the women appeared to take care of themselves but i wouldn't worry too much about going all out spending lots of money on professional hair, tan, nails etc so long as you make a reasonable home-made effort you will be fine!

Hope that helps! :)

Travel / General info when visiting the Rzeszow area in Poland!? [3]

I'm visiting Poland this month for a week and just wanted to know a few things if anybody could help!?
I'm staying near Rzeszow.

-Whats the temperature/weather there at the moment until the end of this month?
-Is it expensive to eat out?
-How much spending money should i take for an average week?

I'm a beginner in the Polish language so know most common phrases such as "How are you, hello, goodbye, good morning" etc but is there anything else regarding language that i'm likely to need or that would be appreciated over there??

Just a general idea please, thank you!
