News / Engineers build train tunnel in Warsaw too small for trains... [18]

euro 2012? Entire motorway network built in 3.5 years? Updated rail network in 3.5 years?

How hard can building a motorway which doesn't subside after 2 years?

European cup 2012? More chance in finding an everlasting oil reserve on the moon.

UK, Ireland / Benefits for separated Polish wife and 2 kids in the UK [90]

Someone please lock this thread, Its disgusting how people see Britain as a place where they can live on free handouts.

If she can't speak english, she hasn't got a job and she isn't willing to get one then she isn't welcome. What can she possibly contribute to our failing economy. What is she expecting to do in the UK that she can't do in Poland. If her husband left her then i'm sure she and her children will get over it its a fact of life and happens all over the world every day. My dad left my mother when I was 18 months old and she studied and held down a full time job in order to raise me, pay a mortgage and put food on the table and never once tried to claim anything. What the **** is wrong with people nowadays.

Sorry about the rant but as a British taxpayer anyone who doesn't work and contribute to the economy in some way makes me sick!

I wonder what I could claim in poland? I spent 3 months living on 500 pln per month until my business took off and was literally destitute at the time did I think about trying to claim anything? NO

I suggest she checks out ryanair.co.uk

So she wants to work part time in a Hotel cleaning, Great contribution people! The Uk's economy is saved!

Surely she would end up claiming more than she is actually contributing?

I guess she expects a subsidised/free house?
Money to decorate this said house?
Money to raise her children (whom are not UK citizens)
Money to pay for bills etc,

Sorry but it is disgusting that someone from overseas thinks they have the right to come to britain and leach off society like that.

If you asked the question "what could she do to find work and childcare" then I would be more than happy to help as much as I possibly can.

If she is interested in finding a well payed job, drop me a PM and i'll see what is available as I have very good access to vacancies across the country due to the nature of my job. (I would do it on a helpful basis ie not for profit)

Life / Cars ::: replacing a/c compressor in poland [4]

I replaced the compressor on my 7 series bmw last year and it cost me less than £400 all in,

Did it just seize or stop working, it usually costs around £60 tops to flush and recharge the a/c system as I've had it done on several car's I have owned. As for the pump there are loads on ebay brand new for around £300,

cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A4-A-C-COMPRESSOR-1-9-TDi-PD-air-con-ac-00- 02_W0QQitemZ330244434484QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330244434484&_trkparms =72%3A984|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

DO NOT under any circumstances try to do it yourself as A/C coolant is highly toxic and very dangerous if not disposed of properly, It's a maximum of 2 hours work and assuming the garage charge 75 pln per hour £400 should see it done easily.

I hate rip off back street polish garages as soon as they realise you are from overseas they try to rip you off, I got quoted £350 for a service on my car but decided to take it to a mitsubishi main dealer as it cost me 450 pln.

It might be worth giving Audi a call as they will more than likely be cheaper than that.

Travel / Tips for driving in Polish cities [29]

Keep your toe to the floor, Pull away quickly spinning the wheels erratically, show no respect to other road users or pedestrians, Try to lose control of you vehicle in random places blocking the entire road for hours. You must also never indicate and weave in and out of the traffic wherever possible and also brake randomly for no reason,

Follow these tips and you will fit in perfectly and look like a native Pole :D

Travel / Tips for driving in Polish cities [29]

SeanBM, I think that is a very comprehensive list and is spot on!,

Just to add,

Remember that your accelerator and brake pedals are switches, IE on or off this enables your vehicle to be either accelerating erratically or braking erratically and nothing in between.

When parallel parking keep your engine revs above at least 6000 rpm (4000 rpm in a diesel) and slip the clutch, have 2 or 3 pathetic attempts at trying to fit in a space which is more than big enough and then simply give up, This is done by creating lots of tyre smoke to prove that you "really are skilled but just couldn't be bothered to park in the end"

Remember that the braking distances quoted in the highway code (or polish equivalent) are quoted in millimetres and not metres so bear this in mind when calculating your distance from the vehicle in front.

Life / BEST SMALL CAR IN POLAND? [21]

NO not at all, Fiats are woefully unreliable and are about as dynamic as used toilet paper!

Best small cars are japanese, Honda, toyota, mitsubishi etc although mechanics might not be able to fix them they never go wrong. failing that get a used lupo or something similar but steer clear of italian, french and anything korean, malyasian etc

jap or german ftw!

Life / BEST SMALL CAR IN POLAND? [21]

I still couldnt drive anything with a Kia badge on the front, looks ok though, would go for a yaris or even the new micra which I think is hugely underrated although ugly.

Forget french they are utter shite, great to drive but about as reliable as Russian politics.

Life / BEST SMALL CAR IN POLAND? [21]

Why do they need a brand new car if they are only touring? Rather than buying a new cheap car it would be much wiser buying a used better quality car, The toyota yaris is really impressive for the money but avoid french cars like the plague.

I went touring france a couple of years ago and bought a 10 year old MX-5 to drive around in, Much better than a brand new budget shopping trolley, much more fun and sold it for the same price I bought it for.

News / Poland boycotts German goods? [266]

Although people aren't all that keen on zee germans they are awesome engineers and products made in Germany are among the best in the world, Nearly everyone in Poland aspired to driving a German car so I think your friend was slightly misinformed.

Remember if you have a polish license you have 24 points available, Try to use all of these up before the end of the year as you get new ones next year.

Points mean prizes :)

Remember to make sure you use winter tyres all year round as these make the best noise when spun at road junctions due to the softer compound. remember to use tyres until the canvas is showing as canvas gives the best grip on Polish roads.

Also if you feel that your wreck might not pass the technical check try using a bottle or so of zubrowka in order to obtain a clean bill of health for your aging 80's rusty shed.

The CB radio is used in order to broadcast the word "Kurwa" to other road users. this equipment must never be used for anything else. Also you must fit the longest Aeriel to the roof of your car. (i think this is so drivers can tap into the power lines for the trams)

When overtaking select the highest gear possible and pass as slowly as possible in the most dangerous of places. Remember high revs must only be used in towns where engine speed must be kept as close to the redline as possible. (there are no young orange bin rats on the open road to admire your skillz)

Life / BEST SMALL CAR IN POLAND? [21]

French car's can't cope with british roads so god knows what will happen when you try to use one on the shocking roads in Poland. I've had several Peugeot's as company cars all of which were nearly brand new and barely a month went by without being stranded at the roadside due to the engine throwing a con rod through the side ore the shocking electrics deciding that they didn't want to play anymore. You would be as well buying a pogo stick as a more reliable mode of transport. French cars are generally very nice to drive including the 206 but the pedals are in the wrong place and with your foot fully down on the clutch your foot catches the steering column. Awesome cars while they work though. Japanese stuff is much more robust and reliable with better residuals although the majority are very bland with the interiors being of unbelievably cheap plastics but they never seem to go wrong.

Forget french and buy Jap or German unless your idea of a good holiday is waiting at the roadside for a towtruck.

Fiesta 1.4tdci is also a cracking little car too.

Life / Is it safe for me and my Asian friends to come to Poland? [44]

I find Poznan safer than Plymouth at night, I know lots of guys from the UAE studying medicine and they have rarely had problems. Don't look for trouble and you won't find it.

Come to think of it WB people here do stare at things an awful lot. If someone hears you speaking English in a shop the older generation and the uneducated are gobsmacked. Likewise when they see a car with the steering wheel on the right hand side.

Life / Street racing in Poland [15]

Street Racing in Lodz?

I saw a documentary the other night about street racing in Lodz, Is this true and does it actually happen? I'm talking about the police organised events as I quite fancy going to watch.

Any ideas how i can find out more?

Law / Polish Car Inspection & Registering car [6]

JUst drive it on those plates for as long as you like :D, where is it actually coming from, I've heard that registering in Poland is really difficult. Technical check doesn't seem to be too strict judging by the sheds that drive around here. If it moves forwards and backwards, attempts to stop when the middle pedal is pressed and can transport 1 metric tonne of cabbages I think it gets a ticket.

UK, Ireland / How to phone the UK from Poland. [8]

Just use your UK mobile if you have one, it really isn't that expensive anymore, 02 do a thing where you pay £10 a month (not contract prepay) and then its the same price as calling whilst in the UK, Called "myeurope" i think and they will give you a free pay as you talk sim card.

Failing that use skype from an internet cafe, 2p per minute.

UK, Ireland / BRITS LIKE POLISH FOOD [51]

I see polish food as fuel and nothing really more, The beer is godlike as is the vodka but the food seems very unhealthy with too many things fried, I tried Bigos after much persuasion and decided that it is vile, Tastes ok but the texture made me urge.

I miss a good old English meal (tikka masala)

News / Should we change the rules to let Poles join the British Army? [119]

Thats a fantastic idea as long as they can speak perfect english, Firstly though it would make sense to get the feral lazy underclass of britain to join first and beat some self respect into them and get them contributing to the economy.

News / Should we change the rules to let Poles join the British Army? [119]

I was referring to the native lazy feral scum of Britain IE the chavculture that live on sink estates throughout the country, never working and claiming every benefit under the sun. In other words if someone has left school and not found a job or gone into further education then they should be forced to join the armed forces, likewise if someone has been unemployed for more than 3 months.

I then think Polish people should be given the opportunity to join, It shouldn't be about where you come from it should be about what you can bring to the armed forces.

My previous comment said nothing about poles being lazy did it? Next time read a little more carefully.

Love / DO POLISH GAYS ALSO DIE YOUNG? [56]

Generally people who post derogatory comments are not really comfortable with their own sexuality so they feel they have to hide this by "queer bashing" I don't agree with homosexuality and I can't for the life of me see why a man would like to have sex with another man but as long as its behind closed doors so children don't have to see it each to there own,

I've never actually met a gay (or anyone I knew was gay) so I have no idea why they die younger.

Travel / Irish/Brits banned from hotels in Warsaw [43]

surely that is illegal and could be sued for discrimination? Doesn't seem fair somehow, If I want to stay in a particular hotel I should be able to regardless of my nationality.

UK, Ireland / What is in Poland that England doesn't have? [142]

Poland has lots of idiotic bureaucracy DVLA levels of incompetence across the board, Personally I think the Polish countryside is dull and boring well wielkopolskie anyway. Its so flat and really isn't that pretty. In my opinion Polish cities are much prettier than ones in the UK as we don't tend to have the old ryneks in britain although the communist filing cabinet style housing is truly awful but then I suppose there are council estates in the UK too.
