yeah... i agree that it is perhaps unusual for brits to cheat at school/uni but having taught in a number of countries... and taught even more nationalities... i can say that this most certainly isnt the case for a lot of countries...

italians, for example, are some of the worst cheats i have ever met... in fact cheating is a matter of pride... so is pulling one over on someone... in english, the fox is seen as a sly animal and has negative connatations... in italian... forbo - fox - has a very different meaning... is there a catholic connection... probably....

the chinese - and i dont like to generalise... but - plagerise like there is no tomorrow... and get really upset when you point out to them that the bit of work they have asked me to mark is written in perfect english and therefore cant possibly be theirs... does this disprove the catholic connection.... probably


apart from the dirty towrag girlfriend who thought i was stupid enough to believe her stories i havent had much, if any experience of lying and cheating in poland... but i keep hearing stories... which worries me at times...

i buy flats mainly because i dont need a permit to do so... but i recently put in an offer on a house - 3OO sqm, land - 8OOsqm with lake at the bottom of the garden in gdansk osowa... 25Ok zl... i made an apointment with the notary to sign documents, phoned up the vendor to tell he when and she had agreed to sell it to someone else for 3OOK zl... all this was over a period of about ten days

... i buy anonse, which comes out on a wednesday morning, and i get up early to get it... good properties have often gone by the time i call up... which is early... dont even bother looking at the website becasue they cant keep it updated...

... a favourite is advertising a property for X59,OOO zl and then when you phone up the price has changed to X95,OOO zl... i have been gazumped a couple of times with offers over 5O,OOO zl above the asking price...

if i am invited to a party then i bring alcohol... of course... polite... manners... and then when i go home if my alcohol hasnt been drunk then i leave it at the party... i dont take it with me...

and when i am out with friends i get a round in... i buy everyone a drink because they are my friends and it's a pleasure for me to buy them a drink... and then the next person gets a round in.. then the next person...

yeah... aint being funny or nuffink like but the jobs they tend to be taking have traditionally been done by lazy good for nuffink rip-you-off locals... and the poles want less money for doing a better job... duh... no brainer...

why should i employ some dodgy-as-f*k british builder who is going to charge me silly money for sitting on his fat ar*e all day drinking tea... had a bloke... and his little mate... in last year to do some plastering... took them four hours... including a two hour lunch break... and half a bag of plaster and the radge wee c*nt wanted 4OO sovs... guess where i told him to go...

so decided to try my luck with the poles...

three of them came in... worked 14 hour days... no endless tea breaks... painted my house from top to bottom - 3 floors - put in a new bathroom and re-decked the patio... took them a week and they wanted 5 sovs an hour... cant say fairer than that guv innit?

so... the moral of the story is that this is a competitive consumer society... if the local good for nuffink lazy f*ks are bothered by a sudden influx of competition then they can get off their poopers and start working... hard... for their money instead of sponging off the rest of us...

i disagree with this SunRa - I spent a couple of years in the tri city in the mid 90s and there was definitely innovation and creativity on the hip-hop/big beat/acid jazz front...

...and when i go out there now i am hearing hip-hop more than i would on a night out in the uk - i am also seeing innovative and creative jamming sessions every week lead mainly by glennskii - see above link - who also lead a project called groovekojad [sp] five or so year ago..

... one thing i have noticed, however, is that many poles still associate hip-hop with black artists and have trouble acknowledging white artists...

have a look around when you get here... it's so competitive that one company or another will have a promotional offer at the time...
