Life / What is your experience about giving birth in Poland? [12]

I just moved to Poland from the USA about 2 weeks ago with my wife (she is Polish) and she is 38 weeks along. We visited the hospital last week and my wife had to stay for a few days because her iron level was SEVERELY low. At first I was a little worried. It wasn't what I expected at all. My mom is a Doula and so I've been around the "birthing" world for a long time and I was surprised that you sleep in the same bed with your new born (it's only a single sized bed!) and there are several women in the same room as you in the recovery room. I'm used to the mother staying in the same room she birthed her baby in until she left the hospital.

On the other hand, you stay in the hospital a little longer here (which IS a good thing). From what I understand it's 3-4 days as where in the USA it's more like 2 days unless there are complications. After being there for a while though, I noticed that the nurses really take care of the mother (as well as the baby) which I found very comforting. I can't speak to the actual birth process here in Poland, but any day now I will experience it first hand! I will surely check back here and let you know how our experience went.

Also, it's worth to note that we will be having our baby in Kielce (I'll post the name of the hospital later....when I know it :) and I'm sure every hospital is different!!

Love / My Polish girlfriend misses home...how can I help? [17]

Is it ok to update you one more time?

Well, we are now living in Brzeźno, Poland which is just outside of Kielce. Big change no? I guess her home sickness got the best of us :) I've only been here 6 days and it seems that I will really like it here.

Any tips for the new guy in Poland?

Law / Tax break for US Citizen teaching in Poland [5]

Greetings everyone!

I have just recently moved from the US to Poland and have found work as a English teacher. I was told by a friend that had worked here previously that teachers from the US get some kind of tax break in Poland for the first 2 years....is this true? I can't find any information on it but would love the answer to be yes :) If anyone can assist me, that would be fantasticzna.

Dzięki bardzo!
John

Love / My Polish girlfriend misses home...how can I help? [17]

Del boy, you crack me up. I was looking for ways to cheer my girlfriend up and you want me to drop her like a hot potato LOL. We are planning to get married when her program is over so I don't think that's the issue. She's 26 and I'm 28, she already calls me old, and tells me she's ready to settle down because she's not getting any younger either lol.

First Christmas.....I was thinking about that too, dannyboy. That will be hard for her for sure.

It's nice to hear from the guys in my same position - Matyjasz and dannyboy (and anyone else of course) what other issues am I going to come across that I might not have thought about? I just like hearing other peoples problems-solutions.

I just wanted to update this post with some interesting news!

My now WIFE and I are expecting our first child in the first week of October! We got married in November and found out we were pregnant the first week of Feb.

:) Del boy, it's a good thing I didn't give up, ehh?

Love / My Polish girlfriend misses home...how can I help? [17]

Hi all, this is my first post, but I've read your forums for a while now. I've always found it useful when trying to be "cute" with my polish girlfriend, but this post is on a slightly more serious note.

Lately she has been missing home a LOT. She is an Au Pair and part of her program rules is that she can't go back to Poland while she's here...which makes her feel "stuck" is how she put it.

I want to do something that might remind her of home and make her feel "close" to her roots....but I'm not sure what would really make her feel that way without possibly make her miss home MORE. I've thought about maybe cooking her an ALL-POLISH meal....but I'm a guy....I need suggestions and step by step instructions on something like that :-)

If any of you have some good ideas for me that would be GREAT!

Thanks,
~Sonicsoul
