History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

little girl or grumpy middle aged woman( i still cant decide which) have you anything to say regarding Polish resettlement in the UK after WW2 or not? If not take your xenophobic distaste of the hand that fed you off somewhere else.

well you should know better then. I was right though, you do come across as very as brainwashed by communism and all its doctrines. You really are the definition of what most people cant stand, Arrogent and self pitying in the same breath.

because you rarely have the intellectual capabilities of mastering ours

or we think, what is the point when we speak the language you all need to work anywhere in the world. There really isnt that much call for Polish language skills outside of Poland. And if you are an "old woman" you have obviously had many many years to learn the language of oppertuinity whre as I have only been teaching myself your varient of western slavonic for the past 2 years.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

Johan, Im pretty sure in a face too face discusion we could both find many things to agree on and I apologise for lowering my standards with petty snipes. It would be nice to think you are capable of the same, your constant insinuations that all British people are ignorent ,uneducated and liars/missled is as insulting to us as calling you communist so lets leave it at that.

all the best.

I am sorry that we can't find a concensus of opinion concerning Poland's place in history.

Im not sure we would disagree on Polands place in history,I think what we may disagree on is the level of blame to be attached to the British people that you would seem to espouse. After all it wasnt the "people" making deals at Yalta et al,it was the politicions. The people of Britain welcomed the Poles with open arms and hearts both in 1940 and again in 1945 after it was clear that many would face prison or execution if they returned to what was then Soviet occupied Poland run by the Polish communists of the so called lublin govt'. In my small town a reletivly high percentage of the population are of Polish origin,Im not myself but a tenth of those I went to school with had names ending in 'ski etc so we are hardly the nation of Pole haters you would seem to think we are.

News / Poles in Iraq. What's the point? [160]

Life / Polish movie/directors [23]

Honestly I dont remember which one was presented in "The pianist"

Both, thats why I couldnt understand how people got confused. But hey, some people get confused at the movies, thats why so many are such mass market hollywood dross :)

Oh,and on the note of Dekalog and Three colours. I cant off the top of my head remember his name but the composer of the music is absoloutly fantastic as well, very haunting.

Life / Polish art pictures [55]

What a fantastic set of pictures :),not all to my taste I admit but all pretty stunning non the less.

What about Wojciech Kossak

Actualy the artist I came on this thread to mention :). I found a large book of his art in a second hand shop in my town in the UK,a Polish book (many turn up as we have a large '45 generation pop') that thankfully at the time I bought it also had a section in English(it still has that section,i mean I didnt speak any Polish at the time....) and found his story and his work most interesting, he actually served as a Uhlan in the Austro - Hungarian army and has such an eye for horses.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to see one of his very large battle scenes close up,and one not on public view while visiting a friend at the Armed forces Museum in Warsaw and have been hooked ever since. I also think his adverts for a certain still available brand of piwo are charming.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

You would if the Police were armed over here as they are in Poland.

lol,to British cusine,by that do you mean the curry I had for tea or the spag' bol' I had for lunch?

If I was living in Poland and working in that country then I would learn the language and talk in it when around the polish

Why would you do this? Do you assume every one is as nosy as you in wanting to know everyone else's conversations? I suppose it would be a little rude to obviously be talking about someone in front of them in another language but any other situation ,caring if complete strangers are speaking "funny" smacks of paranio and a lack of worldleness. You should maybe venture out of the Hundred Acre woods a few more times, take tigger and eyore along if you like, maybe one of them can speak a little Polish...

I will have some strawberry picker

This is another name for what now?

It is the only name for a strawberry picker. What else would it mean? You tell me?

It's rude to tell people to go home when they're just trying to make sth of themselves and I'm tired of seeing it in this forum.

Point out one instance where I have "told people to go home" ,go on,where ?
Are you resident in the UK? Do you have any first hand experiance of being resident in the UK in the last few months,or for that matter of being a citizen of the UK born and raised here?

If as I suspect you do not fill any of those I fail to see what constructive input you can have in this thread. A moderators duty is to ensure some form of fair play on a free forum, not to come on threads they have no connection to and insult people.,or am I mistalen there?

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

You are psychic now are you,or just paranoid, did I mention the nationality of the said strawberry picker? Do you think Polish people are only good to pick strawberries? If so you are the one with the negative attitude to PL not me.

What is wrong with being an agricultural worker,is that something you would have a problem with people doing to earn an honest living? I certainly wouldnt have a problem doing that job if so requeried or inclined, a job is a job,in fact I am sure many strawberry pickers are students who will go on to develop succesful careers in that or more likely other lines of work.

Yes you do insult people with your belitiling attitude to them ,you are obviously such a genious yourself that witty little put downs to people expressing thier far more valid opinion on the subject than you float your boat in a arrogent but narrow minded way that demonstrates a lack of ability to learn from the wider world and your posts only show this to the world .

Oh,and arnt you the clever little soldier, good for you,you spotted a typo by a dyslexic and oh so hilariously copied it in your post, laugh,I nearly bought a pizza. mistaken /mistalen,big frikken deal brother.........

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Although you edited out most of your wilder accusations a to what I was intending in my posts you still havnt answered any of my questions regarding how you can possibly have the gall to be dismisive and belittling (insulting if you like) to people from the UK, a person who came on here not with the usual " Poles Fek off home " mentality but someone who pointed out his perception of his reality, not yours coseted somewhere in North America, but his, here in the UK so I ask again, why you felt the need to dismiss him with the arrogence you did if you have no direct knowladge of his situation?

I actually made the same error

well I'll eat humble pie and apologise then. Got me on a day when Im like a dog with a bone, but, and this is a big but,I still think you were wrong to insult him in that way,he will now be just one more person over here with the mindset that" the bloody Poles are getting everything " instead of maybe sticking around and learning that is not the case, snotty comments dont lead to dialoge and thats the only way IMHO to counter the rising anti immegration sentiments in todays not so UK.

History / Polish Jews - they changed their Jewish surnames to Polish [532]

Quoting: isthatu
blah blah, I wasnt even talking about ww2,as only a dummy brings up that subject......

Why is it dumb to talk about WWII?...while people can become obsessed with the past, thus, in turn, becoming crippled when dealing with the present & the future, it is important to get a balanced perspective on history, so that one can learn from one's mistakes and not repeat them.

cant disagree with anything youve said( makes a change eh?) but, I had been discussing Jewish lives in Britain in the 18th/19th and early 20th century compared to those in Poland/Russian Empire at that time and was avoiding the subject of WW2 as it usually brings out anti semites and loony goy's that think the sun shines out of every jewish butt.

here I recently learned that my family immigrated to the United States as "russian jews" but were really "polish jews"

The same for people who arrived in the UK,they were termed "russian jews" for the simple fact they were coming from the then russian empire whether that be eastern Poland/ukraine or the baltic states or even, though doubtfull ,russia itself.

Oh and whoever it was that was using Shindlers list as historic fact? Ha bloomin har har. Where do I start with the taking that apart? A good film, but stinkingly inacurate. No mention of the fact that it was a Polish catholic who ran the pharmacie/hospital in the ghetto, no mention of the fact that Poldek pheferbergs contacts who helped him escape were Polsih catholics, no mention of the fact that kl Plasow was predominantly a camp for Polish catholic hostages who were treated just as badly, and the layout of the camp altered in the film to give Amon Goethe free vision across the camp with his hunting rifle. Stand where he was and you can see he would have been looking across the "Polish" sector of the camp......etc etc etc

Actually the poster posting some of the worst stuff about Jews is joepilsudski. Ironically I assume he was named after Joseph Pilsudski who was a pre WW2 leader of Poland that apparently had a Jewish wife and was strongly opposed to anti-semitism. I doubt that he would approve of what is been written in his name in this thread

Ive been wanting to say the same for an age....and he's a septic not a Pole, where is it again Joe,kentuky or Alabama?
