News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

I am very optimistic it was just a reflection concerning Ireland's wealth. Poland regardless of the election result has a great future. I will even be happy if PO win the election as I'll more than likely pay less overall taxes.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

The "Celtic Tiger" phenomenom was all about dropping the corporate tax rate and attracting global businessess to the EU. Something that Poland is in an even better position to do now than Ireland was back then..

No. Ireland was a rather poor country until late 80's.

oh come on we were really poor only durring comunism time ... so what is your point johan123

The point that I was trying to make was in reference to Ireland being poor before European entry. Some of you had mentioned that Ireland's position before it entered the EU could in some respect be compared to Poland's. The two countries although similar differ vastly in relation to the extent of Ireland's hidden wealth. Industries such as horse and greyhound racing and sport related tourism have always provided income streams in the Irish economy than were to some extent hidden.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

Johan, Im pretty sure in a face too face discussion we could both find many things to agree on and I apologise for lowering my standards with petty snipes.

I accept your apology and offer my own apology in return. I fully except what you have written concerning the support for Poles in Britain after WW2. I can only hope that are exchange of opinions will be more fruitful in the future.

MERGED:

WW2 Polish settlement in the North study

Hello,
I am looking for any memoirs related to the Polish settlement in the north of England (Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool,Newcastle, York, Bradford etc). I am particularly interested in the inner (Polish) community memories, personal documents, diaries etc. It is for an academic history research project on memory and identity of the displaced communities in the UK. Amongst many other goals, it aims to analyse political perspectives of the wartime Polish migrants and their attitudes towards other migrant communities.

brainwashed by communism and all its doctrines

I have no objection to discussing and exchanging views. I even have no objection to you insulting me from time to time. I do, however, take the liberty to inform you that I have spent the whole of my life fighting communism and would be most grateful if you could at least refrain from the above comments.

have only been teaching myself your variant of western Slavonic for the past 2 years.

I am absolutely delighted to see an intellectual mind facing the challenges of learning a Slavic language. I am sorry that we can't find a consensus of opinion concerning Poland's place in history. I do, however, respect the fact that you are well read and have an opinion to voice and would be grateful if you could do the same.

What's more your reactions are pretty much par for the course! We need to be taught about history by the ever superior, in intellect, Americans or Brits. It doesn't really matter what subject: Economics, Religion, International Relations, Human Rights or anything else for that matter. There is always a judgement of Polish and other cultures/countries, hidden behind a false openess to debate. A false openess that has no real intention or willingness for cultural interaction based on equality. Even if we make the effort to debate in your language, because you rarely have the intellectual capabilities of mastering ours

grumpy middle aged woman

I am actually a grumpy old woman!

if you are insulted by the truth there is clearly no hope for you,i suggest you move to mother Russia where your type of dogmatic interpretation of history may still hold water......

The other topics seem a little difficult for you and you always end up insulting people.

Besides if the price for voicing my own opinion is stupidity in your eyes isthatu. I'll gladly pay it!

News / Polish Election Poll (according to PolishForums) [237]

I think that Kaczynski was smashed durring first part of debate about economy ...

The election is over Lukasz, it is only a question of margin! PiS is set to pull 40-42 % at this moment in time. I suspect that as the situation developes in the coming weeks PiS will increase this margin even further.

Of course, if we go back long enough we'll find periods in Irish history where poverty was evident. I was more refering to recent times, let say 30-40 years ago. Ireland has always had industries which have produced wealth, which in some respects, was hidden from the taxman. This wealth was later used to fund the Celtic tiger when conditions were right for investment.

To be honest boys I didn't tune in to the debate as the election seems pretty much over. Currently bookmakers have stopped taking money on PiS and are offering as much as 10-1 on PO. The only question that remains concerns the exact result in terms of %. I myself have placed a large sum of money that PiS to take 40-42% of the vote.

it doesnt have to be that complicated - dont dwell on it - forgive, forget and move on

Bubba,

I don't live in the past and I am more focused on the future than most. I do, however, understand that certain things need to be addressed in order to bring clarity to the future. Family members of mine were killed fighting with the RAF and others were killed fighting against communists after the world. They believed in democracy and freedom and were willing to died for it.

If that makes me a twat on this forum, I'll accept my role gracefully!

Twenty years from now you will be saying similar things to the people of Iraq or Afghanistan! Forget what happened! Stop living in the past! Victim mentality! etc etc

It doesn't work like that mate! People have to be held responsible for their actions!

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

I don't dwell in the past mate! History has always shaped modern day reality and there are some members of the forum that, through their education, can understand the critical moment we have arrived at in Polish history. A moment that will decide what kind of Europe are children will grow up in and what values will prevail.

[b]FACTS OR *********]

After WW2 certain decisions were taken that destroyed the lives of millions of Europeans! This needs to be addressed and before Europe can truely move forward.

UK, Ireland / Stop the Polish from entering the UK (yet another thread) [192]

According to the Police in London the Poles are responsible for 1 in 5 recorded crimes. Above that of anyother ethnic minority.

In Krakow Brits make up the vast majority of drunks arrested in summer!

UK, Ireland / Stop the Polish from entering the UK (yet another thread) [192]

[quote=eddien] Im sorry to say it but far too many Polish have come here and now the majority of the english population would like to see you go back to bloody Poland. The bigest issue the different political parties in this country now have to deal with is immigration. Immigration is the one of the biggest issues the voting public want the different political parties to sort out. And it is now mainly the fault of the eastern europeans that the British have had enough! The situation will get much worse and already we are hearing about polish people being attacked in the street and in the homes they live in here in the UK.

The fact is you Polish are nolonger welcome here in the UK and you will see many more english looking at you with hateful eyes as soon as you open your mouths.

The government got it wrong and let far too many of you into our country and now the english see you as parasites, insects and we want you to go home to your own country.

Uneducated Brit that can't even write a correct post in English!
