USA, Canada / What were some of the reasons for your family to immigrate to America? [14]

What period of history would this refer to?

Poland began to form into a recognizable unitary and territorial entity around the middle of the tenth century under the Piast dynasty.

I imagine that with the fluctuating borders of Poland (over a period of hundreds of years), a lot of people moved around in and out of the general region in response to invaders, economics, and numerous other factors.

Poland has been a country for a ver a 1000 years

Poland is a blend of other Slavic peoples.

maybe you meant to say Poland is a blend of lechitic western slavs

more than 20 lechitic tribes were united by the Polanie tribe to form Poland

-Polanie- founders of the Piast dynasty (Poznan and Gniezno area)
-Goplanie- lake Gaplo in Kujaw area
-Lędzianie - Bug and upper San river area (from them comes word Lach-Pole)
-Wiślanie - around Krakow (Little Poland)
-Ślężanie -Wroclaw area
-Opolanie - lived by the Odra river - name of city Opole comes from them
-Gołęszyce- upper silesia
-Pomorzanie- baltic region (gdansk-szczecin), included kashubian
-Dziadoszani- lower silesia
-Trzebowianie-lower silesia (legnica area)
-Bobrzanie
-Golęszycy- upper silesia
-Mazowszanie

Life / Poverty in Poland [50]

there are jobs in Poland

for example in Warsaw there is a serious lack of tradesmen that can do tile, plumbing and hardwood floors since many of them have gone to England and Ireland for more $$$.

generaly speaking in construction Poland has a worker shortage and must bring in labour from Ukraine and other countries to meet the demand.

Life / Poverty in Poland [50]

official unemployment is high but you must realize that many people work under the table or "na czarno" for cash and many young people go to the U.K. to work so the unofficial unemployment rate is much lower than your 18%.

Unemployment rate maybe 30% among young persons and in poorer regions it is higher.

unemployment is maybe 12-14 % not 30%

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

Jewish is religion

FISZ,

Jews are members of the Jewish people, an ethnic group originating in the Israelites of the ancient Middle East and converts who joined their fold throughout the millennia by adopting their religion. The ethnicity and the religion of Judaism are strongly interrelated, and converts are both included and have been absorbed within the Jewish people.

don't you mean Israelis are Israelis not Poles?

Israelis are citizens of modern Israel and there are some Israeli Poles
According to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, as of May 2006, of Israel's 7 million people, 77% were Jews, 18.5% Arabs, and 4.3% others

Jews are Jews, not Poles.

Poland was a major spiritual and cultural center for Ashkenazi Jewry, and Polish Jews made major contributions to Polish cultural, economic, and political life. At the start of the Second World War, Poland had the largest Jewish population in the world , over 3 million.

here are some Polish-Jews

Julian Tuwim poet
Władysław Szpilman pianist
Aleksander Ford filmaker, Knights of the Teutonic Order (Krzyzacy, 1960)
Jerzy Hoffman, film director , Colonel Wolodyjowski (Pan Wołodyjowski, 1968 )
Stanisław Lem, science fiction writer
Samuel Goldwyn, hollywood film
Izrael Poznański, textile magnate in Lodz
Jack Tramiel, founder of the Commodore 64
Bogusław Bagsik, hochstapler, swindler

I wonder if German folks share your opinion?

i don't care what they think, i don't like germans , szwaby

I've been repeatedly wrongly assuming you're Polish.

And even your above postings prove you're not

you assume what ? that my name Witek is not a polish name?

maybe it is lithuanian Vytautas ?

I wonder if the German and UPA folks would share your 'tolerant' and 'nationally relative' view?

Polish city of Wrocław is spelled Breslau in German and Vratislav in Czech, this does not mean that Wrocław is a Czech or German city,it is Polish.

I wonder if the German and UPA folks would share your 'tolerant' and 'nationally relative' view?

both groups should have been sent to Auschwitz after WWII
