Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

I have drunk the tap water for 11 years with no problems.

History / Chicago Public Radio on *Polish* concentration camps [62]

I think you meant to say that Germans were Nazis. Let us not forget that the vast majority of German citizens during WWII supported Hitler's cause and his war machine that sought to slaughter the so called inferior races such as Slavs, Gypsies and Jews.

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

In the city people usually don't drink tap water, although it's safe, and some boil it first

No you are wrong Krysia, the tap water is not safe to drink in Poland , this is why people boil water or drink mineral water.

Polish Journal of Environmental Studies, 2005 (Vol. 14) (No. 3) 327-333

The purpose of this work was to determine the occurrence of toxic phenol, chlorophenols, chlorocatechols and chlorinated methoxyphenols in the drinking water of the Polish cities of Lódz' , Warszawa , Poznan and Wroclaw. In samples, chlorophenols, 4-chlorocatechol, chloroguaiacols, chlorosyringols and 5,6-dichlorovaniline were detected. Higher concentrations and number of chlorophenols and their chlorinated derivatives were noted in summer. Among the most toxic compounds, 2,4,5-trichlorophenol which causes toxicity to humans, including carcinogenicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, neurotoxicity, and acute toxicityin was found in the drinking water of Warszawa (summer and winter) and Lódz' (winter) and tetrachlorophenol in water of Wrocaw (summer) were noted. Their concentrations were above the admissible standards of the EU and the US EPA. In some cases the concentrations of chloroguaiacols and 5,6-dichlorovanillin also were significant.

Language / Names for days of the week and their meaning in Polish [15]

niedziela - a day when you don't do anything ('nie działa'). From the New Testament's point of view.

Niedziela comes from the old Polish word "dzielać", which means "to work". Hence "nie dzielaj" means "don't work".

News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

Inkrakow........to be honest, its bl**dy dangerous driving a right hand drive on the roads here!!!!...when you are overtaking a large truck, you have to put half the car on the other side of the road before you can see to get past it, AND watch out for other drivers overtaking you at the same time!!!!

i live in Canada and we are allowed to import RHD vehicles as long as they are 15 years old. my brother imports RHD right hand drive cars such as the Nissan Skyline and Toyota Hilux Surf directly from Japan.

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

have noticed that, most of the time, polish people don't use their "real" name when they are out of Poland. For example, Pavel converted into Paul, Bastek = Sebatian, Paulina = Pauline, Basha = Barbara... It's not too difficult to pronounce so...
ARE YOU ASHAMED OF YOUR POLISH NAMES? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE IT SOUND MORE... MORE CIVILIZED?

i haven't changed my name. it is still Witek/ Witold and this causes me some difficulty because most Canucks don't know how to pronounce my name and/or think i am named after the honda engine (vtec). even if i was to change my name there is no English translation of Witek like Victor. so i am stuck with my name Witek and most of my friends to simplify the matter call me V or Vito.

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

It is a well known fact that the Poles will steal everything even things 'nailed down'. My family in Poland tried to grow trees to make a boundary fence and they were all stolen in the night so they replanted then yet again and guess what? Yes, in the night again, the same thing happened all the trees were pulled up by their roots and were stolen so what was the point?

lol good one. Poles are good at stealing. Better lock your door Michal. The best is when I hear thieves have disasembeled and stolen a bridge in one night or some train tracks.

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

Sad thing is...these people are already friends...or pretend to be...they have drunk coffee at my home , shake my hand when they see me , then steal when they know i was not at home....

sometimes a man must stand up for himself and show others that he will not be pushed around or intimidated by anyone. the moment they robbed you should have confronted them and threatened them with violence or Police arrest because this is all they understand.
