Life / List of Polish movies on DVD with English subtitles [30]

The latest, more expensive edition of Seksmisja (with the cartoon artwork on the cover) definitely has English subtitles.

A couple of months ago I worked my way through my entire Polish DVD collection, checking whether the actual disc had English subtitles (because the box isn't always accurate) and posting my findings here.

Life / Xawery Żuławski's film 'Chaos': does the Polish DVD have English subtitles? [9]

According to Empik, yes.

That's not exactly 100% reliable, but I can confirm that English subtitles exist in some form, as that's how I saw the film at the Era New Horizons festival in Wrocław - so presumably it wouldn't have cost much to slap them on the DVD.

That is brilliant - thank you so much!

I was looking for a scan of the back cover, as I agree with you that Polish distribution channels are worse than useless - and I can just about make out 'Napisy: angielskie' on the one you linked to, which pretty much clinches it. And I agree with you that there'd be no point faking a back cover - if someone ordered it and it didn't have subtitles, you'd just end up with negative feedback.

It was so cheap I was tempted to order it anyway (I have a close Polish friend who's a big fan of 'Wojna polsko-ruska' and wants to see 'Chaos' too), but now I can do it in more or less complete confidence.

Life / Xawery Żuławski's film 'Chaos': does the Polish DVD have English subtitles? [9]

I've just spotted that there's a Polish DVD (on the SPI label) of Xawery Żuławski's debut feature 'Chaos', but I can't find out whether it has English subtitles. I'm guessing not, but does anyone know for sure?

(I saw his second feature 'Wojna polsko-ruska' last week, hence my interest in his earlier work)

Life / Comedy of communist absurd 'Mis' by Bareja [13]

The first Polish DVD release didn't have subtitles, but the new one does. Many online sites sell both versions - you want the more expensive one.

Life / The first Polish movie I watched (I am Chinese). [24]

in 2007,the film&media arts festivel was held in Berwich-Upon-Tweed,Extras/Statyści was introduced especially, but it isn't published in China, where can we wtach it? :(

It's out on DVD in Poland and the UK - I don't know if the Polish edition has English subtitles, but the British one definitely will have.

Try moviemail-online.co.uk/film/55272/Extras-(Kwiecinski,-2006)/ - sorry I couldn't post a full link, but the forum software won't let me until I've made a minimum number of posts.

Believe it or not, there's actually a Polish-Chinese film - Extras/Statyści (2006), directed by Michał Kwieciński.

It's a pretty standard-issue romantic comedy for the most part, but at least the setting is original - it's about a Chinese film crew filming in Poland, and hiring a load of Polish extras for background roles. The reason they're in Poland is because the film is a tragedy and they think Poles look uniquely miserable, which is just one of many stereotypes that fly in both directions.
