Life / Winters Coming Up...How long can I stay out? [6]

Well I like being outdoors, so I just don't want to seem like a societal outcast being the only one walking around outside. Besides, I like visiting new places, and exploring the world no matter what temperature or weather conditions. The same place in 4 different seasons is a different place.

Life / Winters Coming Up...How long can I stay out? [6]

With winter fast approaching, I assume more people will spend more time indoors. I've never lived a Polish winter. How long can one stay outside for during those long winter days? Can you still stay active outside? Do people still go for walks????

What are the jobs like in Torun?
What kind of jobs can you get?
Whats the avg salary?

Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

Okay, Polish Rap and R&B is MUCH better than American! They actually have talent in making that music listenable.

Australia / Accommodation in Melbourne [22]

Kept me entertained :)

Although I agree, some might be exaggerated.

I wouldn't say that TheOther, moreso trying to understand my reasons.

Now, I did say at the beginning for no one to get offended by this post. Everything said is my opinion, which I supported with a website.

Australia / Accommodation in Melbourne [22]

Is that a rhetoric question? I am leaving, planning to anyway, just need to finish my responsibilities and off I go.

OZ is great for holidays, I won't argue with that. It is probably one of the most interesting and beautiful countries of all.

Living here is relatively easy compared to Poland.

Weather is generally good and warm, although its warm weather is actually close to 90% humidity most of the time, meaning that asthmatics aren't welcome. Poland's air is more healthy.

The people are, as stated earlier, bogans.

Don't get offended by this website. I think its a great source of the truth. So many intelligent remarks on Australia, it really forms a correct picture of OZ and living in OZ.

Life / Questions about Torun? [18]

Radio Marija? Any Good?

If you are working as part of some larger organisation based in Torun with english speaking employees then it may not be so difficult.

Working for a large organization there would be sweet. Perhaps even at the University itself!

If you are looking for a city vibe with lots of nightlife, shopping, theatre and different restaurants

Nightlife isn't really a priority for me. I'm after a pleasant atmospheric city. So (in my opinion), I'm after the exact opposite of what Warsaw is.

Life / Questions about Torun? [18]

Yes I did check out that site, but its not very user-friendly. I did find out about autumn classes though, fil.umk.pl/skijpdo/wersja_a/k_autumn.html.

To be honest, I won't be moving until next year, but its better to be planning ahead. Plus I'm really interested in Toruń.

So does anyone here live in Toruń?

Life / Questions about Torun? [18]

Hiya,
I am interested in going to live in Torun for a while. So here are my questions:

1) Is it an expensive city to live in?
2) Is the city alive? Is there a lot to do there?
3) What is the mentality of the people? (Are they city-sleekers?)
4) I need to improve my polish, so I'm sure that the local universities offer polish learning courses to english-speaking people. Correct?
5) IS IT A SAFE CITY?
6) Any extra comments?

Thank you so much,
Mark.

Life / Would you intervene in a mugging on a street in Poland? [16]

Hiya, over the last few days I've read many post on this site...really fascinating actually. The general impression I get is that its a safe country, but you really need to keep an eye out on your surroundings, especially at night, and especially in larger cities.

So, my question is, what would you do if you saw a mugging right in front of you? Would you intervene, or just walk right past? In one thread (on this site), there was a youtube clip where a guy just walked right past a mugging.

Life / How to behave in Poland? General etiquette questions. [30]

What about buying drinks in a bar? My British friends and I always buy each other drinks, where as my Australian friends have this system were each person buy themselves a drink separately. Can I assume in Poland its similar to Britain (buying each other drinks). How does this work?

Thanks.

Life / How to behave in Poland? General etiquette questions. [30]

Thanks for that. I suppose it will be necessary to 'GO with the FLOW' and do what the others are doing.

Oh, lol, and Poland couldn't be anymore in the center of EU than it already is. I personally wouldn't call it eastern.

Life / How to behave in Poland? General etiquette questions. [30]

Hello,
I am going to Poland this year for the first time, to visit family and explore the nation. I would like to know if there are any specific ways that people should behave? Are there things that I should do, and things that I should avoid doing?

For example, when greeting, how many times do you kiss on cheeks? I've heard its a European thing.

Also, when do you call someone by 'sir'('pan') or 'ma'am'('pani'). Do you call people around your same age group by 'pan' or 'pani', or do you talk by using 'you' ('ty')?

Any pointers on how to behave in Poland?
Thanks,
Mark
