UK, Ireland / English, Irish, Scots: They're All One, Genes Suggest [69]

Well it's been a long and trying day so I will bid you all goodnight. At least I can sleep sound in the knowledge that I am genetically structured in such a way to keep up drinking with the Irish on St Patrick's Day. Dobranoc (spelling, jeez)

What does it have to do with Poland?

Don't know really but it is in the off topic lounge section :)

Thinking about it, it means you can work anywhere in the UK Or Eire and know that you are dealing with a genetically identical bunch of miscreants

UK, Ireland / Homesickness of a Polish immigrant from UK [10]

And one day you probably will. Most of us go back home eventually. Every time I worked away for long periods I got homesick. Then when I got home I got the wanderlust again.

Travel / Anyone been to Zakopane? [36]

Is there any possibility for Off-Piste. How about Skidoo driven off piste skiing (don't know if thats even possible in the Alps but it must be cheaper than Heli-skiing).

I assume if you are interested in off-piste skiing (or boarding) you are a reasonable standard. Don't go to Zakopane because it is not that good and also I had problems being allowed off piste. Go to Zakopane for the apres ski and accept the limitations of the slopes by all means but if you want serious off piste then go somewhere like Chamonix/Argentiere or to the US/Canada. If Zakopane was in France you probably wouldn't think of going there. But because it's in Poland you should. (if you see what I mean). It is two years since I was last there mind you. Never saw many skidoos so don't know if it is available. I did see some cool parascending though

UK, Ireland / Will the Poles be out on St. Patricks day [66]

the mentality of the irish and polish

That similarity was one of the first things that struck me when i went to Poland. If there was a World Cup for partying this would probably be the final. :)

It was the Green Guinness that got to me. I thought I was hallucinating. And then the Jamesons was green, and then the sandwiches ......

St George is the patron Saint of England. But being a reserved lot the English never really celebrate St George's Day. Certainly no where near the way in which the Irish celebrate St Patrick's Day. There are a few small village type festivals on St George's Day. I bet if you had a poll in England as to the date of st George's Day 70-80% of people would get it wrong.

Life / What are Poles going to do if there are to live with other nations? [109]

Just imagine if you had a child and some one had to bring you youre child like that to you. Will you just say ag the red and blue people are doing such silly stuff.

This is either deep and meaningful philosophy or complete tosh.

Are you Eric Cantona in disguise?

UK, Ireland / 700 are arriving every day from Eastern Europe into Britain [50]

I'm seriously thinking of going to uk myself and dragging my country men back home by force.

Don't do it Matyjasz. I would lose my golfing partner and who would I drink with ? :)

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that we all believe what is written in our media !

I don't think peterweg is supporting the article, but pointing it out as another piece of scaremongering by sections of the British Press (note the Evening Standrd is I believe part of the group that also publishes the Daily Mail)

What about difficult English words for English speakers, like:

• Colour and color
• Centre and Center
• Tap and Fawcet
• Grey and gray

Two nations divided by a common language
