As someone who is shy but met, fell in love with,& married a Polish woman I can tell you this works best. Don't try to be someone your not, don't try & be flash.

Starting off with a smile & a hello is a good way to go. As you start to visit the store on a more regular basis try adding a few questions to the conversation.

How are you?
Have you had a good day?
Have you been busy?
Do you get much time off?
Have you ever been too? (place of interest near to where you live!)
If you have a car, or you can get there by bus, offer to take her for a day out.. no strings just friends.
After a few weeks of small talk with the woman I liked, I offered to take her to a local castle town that she had not been to but wanted to see. It was just a friendly gesture. whilst on our day out we found out that we actualy had simmilar tastes... music, films etc.

We got on very well, so well in fact that 3 weeks after that initial day out my lady moved in with me, we married a year later & 9 mths after that our daughter was born.

In June this year we will be moving to Poland for good. (but that story is for another time).

My friend just be you, what's the worst that can happen? she says no.

We are going to be in Poznan, I know the roads throughout the city are not brilliant for riding, to many cobbles & tram tracks, but I'm hopeful that I will get out & about during the summer more than I did in good old UK (without having to carry wet weather gear?).

Any info you have regarding importation for the bike would be welcome.

May seem like a silly question but...
Is there any track day offerings in Poland? I'm only asking as my father-in-law took me to a race track in Poznan last year but there was no one there to ask. I've done quite a few here in the Uk & would like to carry on doing them if poss. Prefer track to road if I'm honest.

We will not have an issue with residence, so I hope that we can sort out the paperwork fairly quickly in terms of the car.

couple of questions for you guy's in Poland at the moment:
I'm relocating to Poland in June this year for good, I will be selling my car in the UK before I leave & will looking to buy a used car when we get to Poland. Will this be an easy thing to do in terms of paperwork & insurance, or would it just be easier to get put on my father-in-laws insurance & use one of his cars.

I will also be bringing over my motorbike, a Suzuki TL1000R. Does anyone know what the insurance cost's are like for bikes in Poland? I'm currently paying £200 p/year in the UK, been riding for 30+ yrs & clean licence, so that helps. But if it's going to cost to much I may sell it before I leave.

My god, what's going on here? Is there not enough hatred going on in the world?
Do we have to resort to insulting our neighbours?

My own observations..... In my previous job as a production manager I had to recruit 25 workers for my facility. I employed 25 Polish people, this was due to the fact that the bone-idle English worker refused to get his arse out of his bed for less than £6 p/hr, (I know, piss poor money, but that’s all the owner would pay), however & let me tell you something, in the 30+ years I have been working I have never known anyone work harder than the polish workers I employed. Without question they would commit to as many hours as possible & put to shame the British guys that worked for us. This country. England is full of people who just don't want to work but of course still want money.

I had English guys tell me that they would not do overtime on a Saturday morning, why? Because the government would give them tax credits to stay at home..... Work that one out!

The poles did not/have not taken jobs off the English worker; they took the jobs the English refused to do. What did they do with the money they made? Whatever they bloody wanted. Most Poles I know sent half the money back home to assist family.

Now, 5 years on, most of the poles that we employed own their homes, have cars that are paid for & go on at least 2 holidays a year. As for the lazy English well, the ones that I kept are still lazy, get pissed every weekend, fail to show up for work & always complain that they have no money!!

I actually married one of the women that came over; we have been to Poland many times over the past 4 years. It is an amazing country. OK so it may still be a bit behind the times compared to the west of Europe in some things, but who cares. If you don't like it...leave.

I, my wife & daughter will be moving to Poland for good in the summer, she has a job lined up to start & I hope to find a TEFL post when we get over. We know we are not going to become a millionaire, that’s not why we are going. We are going to be closer to her family, (which is quite large compared to mine); will we be buying a property? Who knows, maybe not in the 1st year but will hope to eventually. Does this make me a bad person? We will be paying taxes like most people, we will be buying Polish goods & our daughter will be taught at a Polish school. Will I get the steely look of hatred from people on the bus every time I open my mouth? Will they tell me to p*ss off back to England? I hope not, it hasn't happened in all the times I've been over. On each visit I have been treated with nothing more than respect even when out on my own. In fact it has not happened to me anywhere I've been in Europe & I've lived & worked in a few countries in my time.

To the 'westerners' who have written with hatred & disgust, think carefully about what your saying, To the Poles who have told us not to come over, think carefully about what your saying. My quiet & sheltered life (!!) has lead me to believe that we can all get along, we have to all get along, this is a small planet that's on the brink of boiling over, at some time in the future........ We Europeans may all have to be brothers in arms!

There will be some out there who will read this & think I am a complete idiot, I don't care.
I just had to get my say in after reading some of the posts on this site.
