News / Are the Polish embarrased by President Kaczynski? [30]

it was interesting to note the changes in my polish friends on this matter over the last 6 months or so... first they were angry... then they joked... now they refuse to discuss the political climate with any degree of depth or seriousness...

about the pres.? or homosexuals?

Hi Daffy,
One thing thats always surprising is people's faces when you get into warsaw, they are gray with misery and depression. Outside of warsaw however, they seem quite happy, and they are building huge houses, driving newer cars.
I was really impressed with the change, but the thing is: The people building huge houses have family in Ireland/UK earning money.

The other people without family abroad say they cannot even keep up with the bills

Ah yea, i see that too but you'd swear they were the only ones to have hard times and its annoying to be told - you cant understand - when you do.

Work / Coming to Poland with Erasmus? [18]

there is not much we can tell you that you cannot find via your erasmus officers in your home college. they will give you the contacts for the university you wish to study in and you will find better information suitable for your query.

Love / Shall we go back to interracial relationships for a bit? [50]

mixed couples, mixed races, its all good! if it is love and genuine as i suspect it is in your case. I have to disagree with sedzia's sentiments of not agreeing with mixed couples BUT respect hugely sedzia's attitude that you are free to do so.

It can work, The things worth having in life, usually are hard work. I am in a long distance relationship at present with a Polish girl (we are both white and catholic upbringing - a point i made refernce to in a post of mine ages ago, that this should not matter, but it did! i was accepted more easier to them and her to mine (friends and families) as we both met the 'norms' of each others backgrounds. It is still hard however as we long to be in each others arms every waking (and sleeping) moment.

So my love for her keeps me going and she tells me the same.

If he loves you, he wil be able to leave you only to return when he can and when you can (when you finish your studies for example)

love does conquer all

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

Ola, I am disappointed in your xenaphobic attitude.

Poland is much better off in the EU (as opposed to the old system in the 80's)
Capitalism is NOT destroying your chances of buying a home.

I live in Ireland and am Irish. I earn less than average wage and cannot even affford half a flat if i tried :) Its economic forces, inflation, wages, etc. Its not the fact that germans, french, english, other Irish etc buy land. (its not this to any large degree at all!)

I am a business studies degree holder and Accountant by proffession and as some one who studies economics I cannot see any valid, logical, rational, fair and balanced arguement supporting your claim.

Capitolism is not perfect. But its not 'bloody foreigners' that are to 'blame' Its like crime in Ireland. it takes ONE pole to be convicted of robbery and all of sudden, all crime here is polish fault!! (which is not true and any rational person knows this - also, this topic has been discussed in length before)

I also, would like to buy land in poland so that i may work, live, earn living there. I will not let any xenophobe dictate what i do in a free European Union. If you wish to be so that is of course your perogative, I would presume you are catholic (forgive the presumation) 'treat others as you would like them to treat you' im sure this includes being racist (for ANY reason - there is NO justification for it)

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

i was in wroclaw 11/06 and alot of building is being done

I was there last week...OMG :)

The amount they did in that time was PHENOMINAL!! :)

More to do, but wow! the progress made! It will not surprise me the rate that poland will grow in the EU (as the EU is funding alot of it)

The fact is that Poland will become one of the BIG countries of the EU (as an economic force - its already BIG (38ish million around the EU)

AND ola, EU, all about intregration, unity, free movement, free DOM :) its a GOOD thing that is happening to Poland though you cannot see it now.

My girlfriend had to swallow her words from last NOV-06 when the university looked so bad under renovation, i said it will look lovely when done. she was oh, they will never finish it, they will make a mess, it will look horrible (to be fair, alot of them said this)

But nie, its a fantastic job they did and to ALL the spots i saw finished since november, even my girlfriend has been caught being, dare i say, optimistic about it :)

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

it is polish greed that is forcing property prices sky high, not hoards of scavaging capitalists...

i wouldnt be so strong worded as BW, but its not the buyer setting the price, BW is correct. it is the Polish owners. You would sell too for a high price...if you had the land to give.

try take the high ground if you wish, maybe you'd turn it down to spite us.

I would sell for high price - i could use the money, thats why its supply v demand. the right price, etc etc. its what allows a market economy thrive and why communism died (well, one reason why anyway)

nahhhh, thats still to nice for you :)

what can i say, im too diplomatic :)

Though, I am very passionate in my opposition to unfounded arguements based on perceptions, insecurities, ignorance, racism, sexism, ice-creamism...the list is endliss :)

serious note - does anyone ACTUALLY thing Poland WONT benefit from the EU ( i mean, ive already pointed out the sites ive seen in Wroclaw!!)

all I see is our wonderful culture changing a bit with the EU

well, i wager €5 with you it is a more positive thing than you realise now. Im speaking from over 30years of Irish involvement with the Eu and we were the proverbial 'eldest child' and now the EU has a better idea how to stimulate and correctly develop more efficently.

if you want any apple products PM me, i get 20% off for you

It's not that. It's that we "owe" the EU for letting us work in their countries, so they expect us to let Belorussians and Ukranians to work in Poland once we finally get jobs opened up. They'll start coming to us in waves and of course we'll end up with the "Ukranian Chicago" in Poland. I don't really mind adding flavor to the soup, just a pinch too much Vegeta will over-do it

'for it is in giving that we recieve' :)

dude, same for ireland, we all went to the US, UK, oz and now it is Us taking the workers! :) we are doing a fair bit more civily too! (though obv some difficulties but NOT even a comparsion to the past) your time will come to BUT that is a good thing that poland returns to strong vibrant and place to be!

war took away my land too!!!!!!!!!!!

700 years occupation - we just dont know where my land is anymore! so here we are.

lets move on, upwards not downwards, forwards not backwards, and twirlling! ALways! twirlling!

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

its glad to hear some reason here. while i agree with certain sentiments (bug rob for eg :)) its no good us giving them 'a reason'. better to try, try, try again with eductation.

we are all aware that if the poles could buy the land at a price they could afford...they WOULD then sell the land to ANYONE who was willing to pay a higher price! so DUH i say

and the comment about the russians, true, they have to a large degree accepted capitalism, there are more russian millionaires made each year! (granted i think most are under dubious conditions - look at abramovich! - oil! - and he owns an english football club, they LOVE him there, as he was able to give it SOOOO much needed funds!)

so its par for the course, you only like investment if your winning and you act like a bigot when you are not. its like playschool!

i appreciate your fears about rising costs but its not a reason to start 'summery (KKK) justice' (also NAZI style BTW!!!) and xenophobia!

Your country is very rich. You can afford alot more than we do

Thats a ridiculious statement. its all relative perception. The cost of living actually is VERY similar all across the EU. the fact is truer to say that the UK and IRE it is MORE expensive to live here! (due to logistics of supplying island nations) The fact that the UK pound is worth 5zl and that the Polish Economey is not up to EU avg (yet)

Average wage in my area US$ 1700 (approx)
Average houseprice US$ 142,000 (two bed)

$1700 per year?

You should move to wroclaw mate, I was there last week and saw MUCH better average than the one you quote.

Average wage in my area (per year) EUR 34,000 (approx)
Average houseprice EUR 350,000 (two bed - add extra 100,000 if Dublin)

Its a pain no matter where you go LS. Poland is no exception and is not the only one in this situation. foreigners buy here and will buy in poland. (It no cause to start Jihad, KKK, nazi-istic attitudes)

I do not want to stop foreighners from buying. I want a better system, which enables the ordinary Polish man to be able to own a house within the age of 30 maximum.

well hey thats the bottom line and ALL i care about. I am talking about ola23's ridiculous racist remarks that are disgusting and against ANY moralistic society and not a good image for poland she is.

Poland is lovely and if i want. (and if i can afford) I will buy there.
Ireland is not british btw. And Ireland has the same difficulties you face for young people so get over yourself! youve been told by several people how it is in different countries and it IS the same for all young people. We just cannot afford houses right now. I agree there needs to be more help given to first time buyers and better taxes on those buying investment properties.

my main arguement was the blatent xenophobia

the ordinary Polish man

ill assume you mean person and are not limiting house ownership to only men.

The wage scale you showed are for all of Wroclow? I dont think so..

eh, i dont think so either! maybe you dont understand english so well as i asked you 1700zl per year? which means i was ASKING YOU to confirm this.

and i DID NOT mention wroclaw wage average. I mentioned IRISH wage average.

I DID note the prices of houses in wroclaw are not as bad as your making out. One of my polish friends works in real estate there and I can see myself (you dont have to be Polish to see houses for sale in windows of real estate shops WHILE standing outside it in the street in Wroclaw!!)

Life / Polish denial of reality - is it a national trade? [117]
