History / 9th November 1989: And the wall came tumbling down [113]

Well I haven't read much, I'm just here to give my 2 cents :D

My family had lived in East Germany, (I'm only 15, I wasn't there to experience it), and it was a horrible experience. They lived in a car (a Trabi, if anyone is familiar), starved a lot, my dad was forced to fight in the Navy (or else...), and the malnutrition was killer.

When they heard "Mr.Gorbachev, tear down this wall" on the radio (it was crappy, and stolen), they cried, and the first person they thanked (Besides God) was Pope John Paul II

The Polish Pope had given my parents so much hope, and the will to keep fighting. Knowing that there was someone out there who had been through similar times (Nazis), and had loved them. My parents took "Be not Afraid" to heart, and had fought.

It disturbs me when Communists look to East Germany as a model and say "oh look how great Communism is" when it was only the Facade of the country that looked nice. It wasn't. They then say that the DDR should rise again.

Always remember, but never again.

Nie wieder.

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

I'm scared to post my opinion on this issue because, well, wiem I'm gonna get a lot of flak...

....so please don't hate me for this....

though my personal input is this: Why should one replace one violent act (rape) with another violent act (killing of an unborn child- abortion)

Why kill somebody who hadn't chose to come into this world regardless instead of just giving the child up for adoption?

Again, this is just what I think... I won't say anything more on the matter... I don't mean in any way, shape, or form to offend anybody here, but I'm very stingy on the sanctity of human life

...one of the reasons I admire Poland

So also, with phrases like "Kto to jest" and "Co to jest" can I just say "Kto to" or "Co to"?

Language / Ten mikrofon to Glokk! [4]

Ok, this is another question (you'll get used to me lol)

There is a song by "Tede" that I like called "Glokk"

There are two parts in the chorus I have question with.

Here is the Chorus:

Stop! Ten mikrofon to Glokk! Esende, mam!
Stop! Ten mikrofon to Glokk! Zło.... WIDZIMY TO!

My question is first with "Esende, mam!" Esende is name of the album, but what is up with "mam"? I know "mam" is "have" in the I-form (Ja mam), but why is it at the end like it is?

It's like:
Stop! This microphone is a glock! Esende, have!

What does it mean? "I have Esende"? That is all I can guess, please help.

This is main question though:

"Ten mikrofon to Glokk" (This microphone is a Glokk), why is it "to Glokk"? I would expect something like "Ten mikrofon jest Glokk" or something like this

Explain please ^^ Thanks again!!!!

Merged: CZTERY Pronunciation

Hello, I am new to the forums and I have a question.

My polish friend keeps talling me that I cannot pronounce the word "Cztery" correctly, even when I repeat exactly what he says. He tells me there is a saying that is "Only people from Poland can pronounce Polish", but I am really trying to get it right, so can someone take this step by step with me?

For example, use phonetics or try spell it out in English or German pronounciation (zB. Fourty- For-tee)

And also, to name the real problem, it's with the ending "ry"

Thanks/Danke
