USA, Canada / Iranian moving to Poland from Canada. What to expect? [23]

Guest wrote: "its not that Polish people are racist..."

hahaha, when did this happen?!? Have I missed a memo?!?

OP: there is quite a bit of racism in Poland (I am Polish and hate most everybody :P j/k). That said, don't let it discourage ya. Chin up, learn to frown and complain loads (too much smiling will get you pegged as having a mental illness), and you will be fitting in in no time at all. :P

Love / Why are Polish girls so emotional [16]

insecurity and self obsession are traits that are not limited to Polish girls.. sounds like you are attracted to high maintenance babes.

I agree here, and with other posters. I find this sort of stuff in loads of women from all points of the globe. Not just Polish girls.

News / NUDE BRITISH MEN RUNNING AROUND IN WROCLAW [82]

On behalf of the Brits who do behave themselves (please do not class us all the same) all we can do is apologise for these stupid idiots. It would be better if the Polish Police just herded them all up, locked them in a cell and put them on a plane back to the UK. Finally they should never be allowed to travel to your country ever again. We are fed up of having such a bad reputation in other countries so the people who serve these stupid people should also be reprimanded. No business should be allowed to serve drunkards in the first place so some responsibility should be taken by the establishments that are taking their money and providing the alcohol. As I say please send them home!

How do? Actually, I was just curious about this streaking thing. I served in the Canadian army for 3 years, served with some wild nutter Brits and I must say that while you fellows can go over the top at times (I have on an occasion or two) I must say that I hold you British in great regard. Heck, everyone is entitled to getting a little over the top on occasion, if the behaviour becomes or is serial then I agree, something should be done. But heck, let the lads have their kicks, as long as nobody is getting hurt or anything.

But yeah, this stripping business. It seems almost as culturally ingrained in Britain as tea and having a cool head under fire. :)

peace out

News / POLES the BLACKS of EUROPE? [104]

Have you ever met polish gangster?
Was he really so funny?

Yep, I met two, possibly a couple more without knowing. Nope, they were most certainly not funny in that I took them very seriously.

A year ago while stuck in Toronto for 6 months (for a crappy work posting), I ended up getting in with some local Poles, originally just to take advantage of the opportunity to hang with some fellow Poles, drink, converse in Polish, drink, drink, etc, heh (the area I was raised in down in eastern Canada has an aging Polish community so my main opportunities to speak to anybody in Polish was with my dad, born in Poland, and a few other older relatives). It was nice for a change, but turned out that a couple of the guys I got into hanging and drinking with were most certainly "rounders" (as in been around...criminal sorts). Good guys but it is just not really my thing being a computer programmer. Initially I didn't think they were involved in too much, but events would later prove my assumption false, these two were pretty serious gangsters and were making some pretty serious flow doing some pretty serious gangster stuff. There was no emulating tv/movie hip-hop gangsta stuff; they were relatively quiet and unassuming sorts. Quiet and unassuming, yes, but I harboured no illusions that I was much happier having them as friends than I could imagine having them as enemies. Very serious dudes.

peace out all

News / BOOZE & CAR TAX TO AID POLAND'S NEEDY? [23]

I am not sure about this. No nation has ever taxed itself into prosperity. Also, who can ever be sure how much of those revenues ever actually get to where they are intended. Typically, bureaucratic overhead, waste, etc, all typical of government will consume a good portion of these revenues long before a single zł ever sees a needy persons hands. A good alternative might be to lower taxes on small and medium sized business provided they increase employment targets. Also, tax incentives for companies who are hiring/expanding is a good idea, as long as they maintain various employment targets. The working spend money, broaden the existing tax base as unemployment drops (thereby increasing overall taxation revenues) and are a much more attractive alternative to just driving up taxes anytime that the government needs some flow for some thing or other. Granted there is always going to be some people who slip through the cracks and these people need assistance; I just figure that it is a more productive to get as many of those needy working. As I said, the more that work, the more that pay tax i.e. a larger tax base, the more that is available for those truly in need, all without raising taxes if possible. Just my two cents.

News / Social mobility in Poland [5]

Is there already an established class in Poland trying to protect its interests?

hahaha, there was before 1989, hence Solidarność.

Communism, capitalism, whatever, there is always a pecking order, always some group maintaining the established order over everybody else. It is what happens when you add people to noble concepts and ideas.

[an edit] I would like to add that capitalism is probably a bit more honest about the way things go down. Under that system, you basically have a bunch of rich dudes scheming about how to better their own position motivated by pursuing self-interest. Keeping others down is just a largely unintended bi-product of that pursuit of self-interst. With communism you actually had the established order sitting about plotting to keep the masses down, it was one of their primary aims. :)

peace out
