History / The movie Defiance is a big lie (heroes that saved Poland suppored communism) [102]

who owns the media makes opinions makes policy...

If we tried really hard we could all be on the same side. For instance, if Germany was invaded the US, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, would all be right there for Germany. Where, exactly, is the enemy? It's not us. So, why all this mistrust?

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

I was not born in Britain, neither were either of my parents. I’ll grant you that one of my grandparents was born in the UK but in Scotland to be exact. Does the racist term “Pom” include Scots? I thought it was only English.

Harry, does this mean you are a Plastic Brit? That's rich.

Why then, should Britain be blamed for the 50 years that Poland spent at the hands of communist Russia?

Another example of what looks like RealPolitik on the part of the British is the White Paper. How do you explain it? From here, it looks like Britain was the one who stood in the way of people leaving Europe for Palestine. They wouldn't let it happen. Why?

You are posting about Poland I am posting about Britain's White Paper. The White Paper, IMO makes Britain of the time as culpable as the Nazis, just my opinion. Now, this is why I question G.B. They should have let whomever wanted to move to Palestine in.

Do either of you have any comment about how Poland sold its Ukrainian allies down the river with the 1921 Treaty of Riga?

I haven't read about that, specifically, but will look into it and get back with you on it. I am learning a lot at this forum.

You need to understand the difference between limiting immigration to a country at the risk of inflaming the indigeneous population of a strategically important region and the using of industrial methods to liquidate 6 million innocent people.

That's nothing but bs. What a lame excuse.

Particular attention to the part which says

I am researching through google on my own right now. I don't rely exclusively on Wiki for my information, lol. If you do, that's alright. I prefer to be a bit more thorough, tyvm.

BTW

The 1919 Treaty of Versailles settled the German-Polish borders in the Baltic region. The port city of Danzig, a city predominantly German but as economically vital to Poland as it had been in the sixteenth century, was declared a free city.

Now, what's all this talk about a dispute between Germany and Poland over Gdańsk if it was a "free" city?

Allied arbitration divided the ethnically mixed and highly coveted industrial and mining district of Silesia between Germany and Poland, with Poland receiving the more industrialized eastern section.

Probably pissed Germany off more than the Gdańsk issue.

Although of course it is not the same: Britain at worst decided to stand aside and let the Germans and Russians take Poland and oppress the Poles; Poland actually took half of Ukraine and oppressed the Ukrainians (while standing aside while the Russians took the other half and oppressed the Ukrainians who lived there).

Russia and Germany's regimes were more brutal. I hear what you are saying, tho. My belief is, when dealing with an area that has several ethnic minorities, is to unite them on a federal level while letting them have their culture, which is a modern American way of thinking, I suppose. I think it helps ease tension.

America hasn't always been like this, I realize, but is leaning more toward this philosophy, recently.
Let them have their culture, their language, but not their amassing of weapons and nationhood. They are their own communities yet under one federal flag.

At the same time, they need guaranteed equal rights and federal protection so there isn't this paranoia and desire to arm oneself. It's up to the federal government to protect the rights of individuals in such a place.

Thats possibly the most sensible thing you have said on this forum

What makes you think that? I consider myself to be a moderate poster. I only examine areas I think are dubious and need looking into.

You are a moderate poster but your opinions are largely incomprehensible to me. I find many of them abrasive and struggle to understand where you are coming from to have formed such an understanding of the world.

My entire life I have been around all kinds of people. People of European heritage, Scottish/English, Irish, Germans, French, Jewish, Polish, Czech, Italian, you name it. Russian. Jordanians went to my college. I went to college with Russian foreign exchange students who were all very nice. There's a huge latin american and asian community here too. The major cultural influence here is native american, tho, so I know a lot about their histories and culture, more so than other areas in the US.

When you live around people from all kinds of ethnic groups you learn a few things about what works and what does not. Maybe this is why you are struggling to understand?

History / The movie Defiance is a big lie (heroes that saved Poland suppored communism) [102]

I saw the film Defiance today and, for the record THE MOVIE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH POLAND. I am talking about the movie. This film was about BeloRussia, the Soviet Red Army, the Germans and a jewish partisan group in BeloRussia, plus, refugees from ghettos living in the forests.

History / Question about Post WW2 Polish Jews etc [42]

as the racial policies against the Poles which was to be one of slavery rather than extermination.

Actually, that isn't true. Nazis had a plan. In about thirty five years Poland would be nothing but Germans leben in their lebensraum. That was the plan. The plan was to kill everyone in Poland who was not German. It would have been a matter of time. The rest of Europe and the US intervened before they had a chance to implement their plan completely.

History / Polish Anti-semitism - origins? [186]

they rarely broke the rule of harbouring or helping the jews.

Completely false. Poles did help their neighbors many times. You sound like you want to stir trouble with your false claims. The punishment for helping jews in Poland was death, which goes to show you Poles were helping jews a lot, despite what the Nazis wanted, otherwise the penalty wouldn't have been so harsh.

Put a chocolate bar somewhere war and let it melt a little, then carefully place it in his underwear. When he wakes up you can watch him squirm as he thinks he has shit himself.

If you did that to me I would smack you one.

Sorry, if it's offtop but maybe this will interest you - the British Government has officially expressed regret for NOT INVITING Polish Combatants for the famous V-Day parade in 1946.

WELL IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

It's a complicated area. Do you think Reagan, as an American, valued traditional justice? I guess so. Did he value social justice? Now that's a different question.

He isn't known for his commitment to the concept of social justice. He was accused of ignoring AIDS and supplying blacks in the US with crack.

The biggest feather in his cap is the destruction of the Berlin Wall and the uniting of the Germanies but would it have happened anyway and was it left up to chance, ie: he being at the right place at the right time thus swooping up all the glory and credit?

Knowing what we know about him now, I don't think anyone would vote for him. People accuse him of being senile during his terms.

News / Polish medal to Ronald Reagan [18]

He was thw best leader in World History when it came to containing and dismantling nuclear weapons. Ending the Cold War. Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall...

I agree, he did want to end communism but why it took him, I don't know...I don't know why someone else didn't think of it first *giggles*

HB, how's your Polish? Yes, you are more Polish than I am.

This isn't a contest, Seanus, but FYI, I was the only person (that I know of) in a high school with over 1500 students with a hard to pronounce polish last name and whenever someone saw it they asked "Is that a polish last name???" over and over. That was after I told them how to pronounce it, which I would have to tell them over and over because they just did not get it and would pronounce it wrong then ask me how. So, you can sit there and tell yourself and me that I am not polish but I know for a fact I am and have been told my whole life that I am. TYVM.

News / Israeli youths misbehave in Poland ceremony score [47]

I can't help but wonder when I read these posts...everyone who knows anything about history knows that Europe has a long history of antisemetism, not just toward jews, but toward semetics in general, roma, jews, tatars, whomever happens to be semetic. What I wonder is, since Europeans do not want semetics living with them, or didn't, at one time, why do Europeans object to semetics having their own state someplace else? That is the part I don't get all. Since you don't like them, why be against a place away from you so you won't have to live side by side?

It seems like you would be grateful they have their own state so they aren't living in yours.
