USA, Canada / TORONTO OR MONTRÉAL (for a Polish person to live?) [35]

My choice would be Montreal. It is very European.(French) but a good number of Poles. Toronto too is a good place, plenty of Poles. It is a matter of individual choice.. Canada is a great country.

I have never witnessed that. Poles have been here since Jamestown. I have lived here all of my life and have yet to see any hatred toward Poles. America has been good to Poles ,and Poles have been good for America.

Cenowski, I will be the first to agree that America has faults. But they are brought on by our corrupt politicians. ( They are in every country). The majority of people that came to America as immigrants from all countries, came for a reason. They were not happy where they came from. America had something to offer.We are a nation of many nationalities. Mostly Europeans, Italy, and the Balkans. All good hard working people. We co-existed with each other and built a mighty nation. My Father always talked about Poland.. I remember asking him one time if he would like to return. e replied, (Only to visit) He took great pride in being an American.

Cenowski, Allow me to try to paint a picture of present day America.
America today is not like I remember it as a kid. I am 49 yrs old now, but I still recall the days when the Polish immigrants gathered together in their own neighborhood.I went to an all Polish school taught by Polish Nuns. In them days everybody was Polish, the Grocer, butcher, baker,candy maker and all the rest. There were Polish banks,clubs, mass was said in Polish.

After WW2, things began to change.. The old folks died off, the younger generation fled to the suburbs. Polish was on its way out.There are still Polish enclaves in Chicago, Hamtramck

Michigan And a few other places as rule, the young people are scattered all over the US.. The Ability to speak Polish no longer exist.

actually i looked at lsit n Wikipedia of Polish americans and iw as supprised at how many people just changed name and had long lost anscetry

Yes , My brother who was raised very Polish changed his name from Krawczyk, to Taylor.. His reason was that a lot of Americans could not pronounce Krawczyk. He went on to become a multi millionaire.. Even Chicago is on its way out.. It is just a matter of time.. The old people are dying off.

My brother is looking at NZ him and his wife are professionals and young enough so I dont see it being such a big issue, it's not about some life style they are seeking they have a nice house and all the trappings here, it's for the kids.

I looked all over this thread, and cannot find where I made that claim. If I did, I would retract that statement.

I have no problem with the Irish. I know very few. There are a lot of them in America, but we all are Americans. I know nothing about the Irish attacking London.. I do recall that there was violence by the IRS in Ireland, but ,I am not qualidfied to pass judgement on that subject

I have no desire to get involved in any conflict that the IRA has with England. As far as I am concerned this is a problem between the two of them. A lot of countries fight each other. There is a lot of infighting right here on PF. We all have our thoughts on different issues. If we were to take a vote on the racial issue, I am pretty sure it would come out even. SO, which of us are right? This subject will go on and on, I would like to see cooler heads prevail.

Miranda and I fight this battle all the time.. But in a fun way. She is a liberal, and I am considered a racist. But we still find amusement from our duel.

A few years ago in Sweden they were looking for a crime suspect. The TV and radio provided the description. One important thing was missing. The skin color. It would have been racist, they claimed, to say that the suspect was black.

This has been standard practice in the states for years. I as an employer, will not accept a mailed in application. I want to see who I employ. And I insist on a blood test from a laboratory of my choosing. Both white and black.. Yes Miranda, I do employ qualified blacks.

This is just about a thing of the past in America. At one time many years ago when there were still Polish churches in most big cities, it was a common sight to see people going to church for the basket blessing. With the changes in the old Polish neighborhoods due to minority intrusion, people were afraid to go to church and moved to the suburbs. Without a congregation the Polish churches were closed.

Dyngus is just a memory still remembered by the remain older generation

I love my Polish food. I was raised on it. Although I can afford any other food, I stick with my Ethnic Peasant food. Eaten reasonably one does not have to get fat. Eating a big meal of any food and then sitting on your ass will make anybody fat.
