News / Is it time to tighten gun laws in Poland? [146]

hunters in Poland despite all their training seem to be a bit prone to shooting anything that moves , only recently in Poland a hunter shot his son by accident....

Responsible owner is the key to what you say. Drinking and hunting is not responsible. I also think when a culture demonizes guns and people have very little experience handling and using them this kind of thing is more likely.

I have no problem with hunting non protected animals for food. Most hunters eat the meat...the trophy hunters are morons and not the norm.

Accidents, thank u. Do u know what that means? It means that u didn't mean to do it, u had no mens rea. Oh, I dare say accidents happen with guns too but users usually know what they are doing and intend to carry out the deed of firing. That doesn't appear so accidental to me.

Whoa whoa whoa...way to pick ONE label out of the list (how conveniently the only one that fit your view) and turn it.

I am not buying that nonsense Mr.

The police can escort u 2 where u intend to use the knife, e.g workplace.

And that is plain overkill. I carry a knife (tool) for the instances when I am not planning ahead to need it. It comes in useful all the time and many other people ask to use it as well.

This is the nanny state overkill I am talking about...where does it end?

As long as you have a legitmate purpose for having it in Public , its not a problem.

So how do they establish that? I carry a knife all the time and other than "in case I need to cut, pry or open something" I have no reason to give.

It's so easy for me to nullify ur argument above. What word do we use to describe car-induced deaths? Go on, tell me, I'm listening.

Depends on the reason. Premeditated homicide, negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter, accident (applies to guns too)....not so nullified really.

They aren't! I legally own several knives...

Ah maybe I am ahead of myself and they just want them banned. Are you sure there are no restrictions as to the possession of knives?

They were still designed to kill tho

This is not being disputed...and you sir are redirecting and you KNOW it. Don't be coy.

You are saying that is why they should be banned and cars not...yet cars kill many more people...the whole POINT of the conversation starting....you felt having guns is bad because it KILLS too many people.

In addition...knives have many more purposes than killing and may or may not have been developed to kill (maybe first as a tool..who knows?) yet they are banned in the UK. The arguments you have don't stay on focus.

Maybe we can look forward to day when all cars are automatically controlled by goverment computers to keep them safe. :)

As long as they are not run by the Polish government. You would never get anywhere as you would be spending all your time getting your stamps and documents and being "failed" on your exam to get the license you would be required to have to 'sit' in the car legally.

there should be controls on guns.

And there are. To carry a gun for self defense you must attend classes and get certified. The majority of people who do this attend a lot of training over time as they enjoy shooting and want to be prepared.

Agreed....people are reactionary hypocrites and as long as they have a problem with something or find no use for it they think nobody else should need or have it either.

Take away their wheeled death machines and there would be no end of crying and whining.

Today, 17:59 Report #35

Cars weren't designed to kill, guns were. Simple!!

That has nothing to do with whether or not they should be legal. Nothing at all.

The fact is they DO kill...and isn't killing the end result that has people upset?

But look at how useful cars are.

But they still kill a horrendous number of people....is it ok that people are killed as long as some find use in the things that are being used to kill them?

If yes...that describes guns...if no...that means you agree cars should be banned too...

Every able-bodied Swiss male from 20-30, for example, has a Sturmgewehr in his closet and is part of the state militia.

In fact until recently the Swiss were required by law to have that weapon and a certain amount of ammunition in the house. Switzerland get's it.

I also generally agree with the rest of your post...especially the reactive nature of our 'protectors'.

Tony martin was muppet enough

Muppet cracks me up...in my context it was a cool puppet that made me laugh as a kid. To hear it used as an insult still doesn't quite track.

I see nothing wrong with planning for the bad guys to come but for sure telling the powers that be that is not a wise choice.

I just wanted to make the point that we get by without guns OK.

I bet you could get on fine without cars as well...and they kill FAR more people than guns. Let's ban those too.....and beer....and fast food...oh what else can we ban to keep people from getting hurt? Maybe Mountains! People get hurt all the time hiking and climbing....and the ocean...people drown so let's ban water....

On and on.....

Who said there are no bad people here?

re defense laws it varies by state. Generally as long as you are found to use force in defense of life and sometimes property you will not be punished. Clearly if you shoot someone in the back 5 times for stepping in your grass you will have have issues and rightly so. Now there have been some iffy cases but most of those have had the facts spun out of control by the media or propagandists.

There was a recent case of a father who wrestled an intruder down who had a knife and was in his house trying to rape his teen daughter. He ended up killing the intruder with his bare hands and was not charged. Had the intruder been bigger, high or had friends it would have ended much differently.

Don't worry pointy sticks and anything harder than foam will be banned in the UK soon enough...followed by the rest of 'progressive' Europe. Everything will be made out of Nerf like material. It could have some advantages but would make other things incredibly difficult.

News / Is it time to tighten gun laws in Poland? [146]

No...because the founding fathers knew that the 'bad' people...whether those be criminals or a tyrannical government would always be able to get them...and their desire was to give people the means to protect themselves.

Did you know the Japanese were afraid to invade the US mainland during WWII because they knew so many people were armed?

The government in the USA knows if they want to control the people they have to do it through more sly methods and paperwork as force would never work with the American population. Now most likely we are past the days of violent overthrows is developed Western countries....but our constitution and it's provisions were not mistakes...if anything it was incomplete (ie right for certain people to vote etc)

maybe, but when criminals/idiots can easily obtain access to firearms does this not excasberate the issue?

Do you really think criminals and idiots are getting their guns in the local sporting shop usually? They get them through smugglers and the black market just like they do here in Poland and any other place.

Again....criminals will always have guns even if they are illegal. I could buy a handgun here in Warsaw if I knew the right people. Hell they raid a flat full of Kalashinovs etc every so often here.

If I walked into a black area with a gun, not looking particularly menacing, they would still feel intimidated and may resort to aggression. A sign of hostility.

On the first point only a moron does that...most people who carry guns for defense carry them concealed and in may places that is the law to do so.

On the second...OF COURSE...the point is BAD GUYS will always have them. Bans only remove them from the hands of law abiding people. That's like saying the world would be better without war....clearly so....but if one nation gets rid of it's military (especially if they have valuable resources) then SOMEBODY with an army will take them over. Can't end gun violence unless ALL guns are gone. Never going to happen.

Agreed...that is why it is such a slippery slope to try and ban everything that can hurt people. I will never end and is not effective. I can find endless things to be used as weapons that nobody would think twice about being dangerous.

How would you like to be beaten to death with a 5kg bag of pierogi or burned to death with a can of hair spray and a lighter?

It is stupid to blame the tool for the user's lack of self control or just plan evil nature.

However, can u deny people a gun (in the USA) based on a hunch or mild suspicion?

Actually yes they can...though it may not be necessarily "legal" to do so. But gun stores are private businesses and unless you can prove they are refusing to sell to you because of your skin color or religion etc they don't HAVE to sell you anything. I have seen and heard stories of people being asked to leave because they appeared suspicious or 'off'.

Convicted felons and those with certain psychiatric conditions are also prohibited from purchasing most "guns". You can't just go plop cash on the counter and walk out with a gun with no ID or background check regardless of what the propaganda says.

Life / Polish Girl Fashion - "less is more"? [108]

U.S. (probably the country with the ugliest women on earth

Wow I guess you havent paid attention to a lot of people in your home country then. Most Brazilian women don't look like the Giselle or Alessandra and in fact most are pretty homely.

The US is also composed of 'looks' from every culture on the planet INCLUDING your culture. So your statement is a bit jaded.

I think women that obsessed with fashion etc are shallow and not at all the 'better' people they imagine themselves to be.

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

U r in Poland now, relax guy

Yes and I think the laws here are ridiculous and fascist. I think the European mindset to self defense is pathetic and that criminals are afforded more rights than normal people often...look at the UK where people have gotten in trouble for fighting and hurting people that broke into THEIR homes...or the Police telling you to leave gates open to prevent a bad guy breaking it or hurting himself climbing over it. The whole mindset is wrong.

I saw a Policeman the other day here holding his pistol by the trigger guard dangling under his hand with some files in his hand. Anyone with sense knows that is a stupid thing to do and you should never be so careless with a firearm loaded or not. I have no faith in the powers that be to protect me here. Even if you got a good one responding he wouldn't get there in time. Hell I have called the emergency numbers a time or two for accidents and once for a very big fight and got put on hold and never answered. You can't count on others to keep you safe.

Life / A trip to a Polish supermarket [136]

You can make shopping there by the internet.

I have wondered how well this works? For example...fruits and vegetables are usually horrible quality at most places and you have to select the few decent ones. I can just imagine them tossing some bananas in the bag to fill your order and them being all brown and old. I guess if they were polite and decent about it this service might be attractive.

Then again I rarely spend over 50pln per trip and don't see the sense in paying so much for someone to carry it up to me.

Life / A trip to a Polish supermarket [136]

gtd you did make one major error - stay away from supermarkets on sunday if possible.

Yes for sure...or Saturday...or weekdays between 5 and 7pm.

Overpriced? Hell the normal "cheap" markets are overpriced so I am sure that place is absolutely criminal.

Then I was challenged... had to pay for some wędliny a few zloty.... had a bag of change, but just refused to give her a hand :) She knew I had then change but with a big smile I handed over a 200 PLN note. She made me wait something like 10 minutes before handing over the change. But I did not care.
It was a moral victory in some way I guess.

I am confused...you are insulting me and giving me grief yet you do this? WTF?

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

I imagine the end result of life saving to be still more important.

Right the end result of life saving is more important. And that is why people should be allowed to carry for self defense.

And yeah it is uncomfortable at times to have an extra kg of metal and leather poking you in the side or strapped on your ankle and having to keep it hidden properly. That is not a good enough reason not to have it.

I have no problem if you wish to exercise your right to NOT carry a gun. But you have no foothold to interfere with MY right to do so.
