The park is probably Planty which encompass the Old Town from all sides. Yes, shitting in public could have happened there as it is a place known to be frequented by drug addicts, the homeless, bums, drunks, etc. The police and city guards are helpless.

Probably not. I forgot to add that there are also old prostitutes willing to make your day for a can of beer. Sad but true. One of my friends was approached by a woman and he almost gave up after the explicit proposition of having sex with her.

Oh la la, don`t be so touchy. :):) Saying intelligent reasonable Russian was a purely neutral statement. There are morons everywhere, in Russia and Poland too and some of them visit forums. So, what I said, was connected with morons visiting forums despite their nationality.
But... you must admit there are more morons in Russia if hate crime is so high there.... 120 victims in 2007.... Even if we assume that Russia`s population is almost four times bigger than Poland`s, yet we don`t have 30 race murders in Poland every year. If there was even one, I would be really surprised.

When I wes at college before university, they ran a class called english for speakers of other languages. The students were usually thriw world immigrants and asylum seekers and I can honestly tell you that when my class used the room after them, we had to open the windows. It smelled awful .
It was the fault of Scottish academic teachers who economized on taking a shower. Saving their pennies....

I live in Krakow and yes, it was me whom you saw in the street and I didn`t smile...
I used to smile a lot, however, with the passage of time, I noticed that I was getting nasty wrinkles on my face, especially around the mouth.
So I gave up smiling ... don`t care about foreigners.... I prefer looking sad to old...
But it also seems the place has some real serious issues.
For a start they need to learn to smile. life is too short to always walk about like the world is going to end tomorrow.
Manners cost nothing. Be nice to someone and they'll be nice to you. Its been a big culture shock and a big wake up call.

From my observations while driving in the countryside: I can see most farmers have tractors and use them a lot. However, there are some kinds of farming activities which you must do by hand, e.g., planting tobacco.
I'm working on a report for school, and I'm trying to find out whether the farming done in Poland is done mostly by hand or machine. Any help would be much appreciated!

You might have been doubtful for one thing. What lies at the root of your belief? There're plenty other points of view but you picked exactly this one. Why so selective? How do you know that the murderers were Russians?

I'm afraid I can't agree. First and foremost they fot their knowledge from the reality, from the street, secondly from the organizations which in fact have nothing to do with fascism or racism or something like that are paid... Think we need to dwell for a while on the last ones. I presume that some organizations intentionally use youth to study their own interests; their purpose is to overblow things to make up a problem at the drop of a hat. I suspect some even kill migrants themselves; and it's important to note that they're not skinhead or something they're killers. Idea of racial superiority and stuff like that is only used to attract teens.
It doesn`t matter if the organizations are Neo Nazi or not. If a young person is so easily influenced by them that he commits a crime, it means his family, school, whole background didn`t manage to shape his character positively and to make him a decent man who sticks to his reasonable views..

I happened to see what MHG and SOVA center was from within. "Nongovernmental" is not that precise word... it's governmental.. better to say it's non-Russian. Apart from their really good deeds they have to do some "dirty work", otherwise they wouldn't be paid (read "wouldn't exist"). Compilation of such reports is kind of that work. Their logic is simple: if caucasian were killed then it's likely to be "skinhead" and.... here we go... 120 victims.

You are laughing but I didn`t yesterday when I was taken aback by her refusal. Fortunately, everything is going well now. They have turned on the central heating as I said, and I installed an electric heater. The atmosphere is getting hotter every minute. Soon I will have to quit posting here.....
