News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

How about Ukrainian, how different is it?

There are some small differences but it's no problem to Russian speaker to read Ukrainian.
And vice versa.
For example Ukrainian letters like: і Ї ї.
Compared to other Cyrillic alphabets, the modern Ukrainian has most in common with those of the other East Slavic languages, Belarussian and Russian.

Donetsk, in the east of Ukraine, tends to be more Russia friendly. Lwów (Lvov) tends to be more Polish friendly.

Risky statement, Seanus.
English speaking Irish more England friendly than, let's say, Spaniards ?

I would rather say more Russia oriented (Donetsk) and more EU=Poland oriented (Lviv).

What's the difference between oriented and friendly here?

Mentality and national objectives.
Business as well.

Western Ukies would like to be like us = second class Europeans lol.
They are as a matter of fact similar to Poles - same nonsensical pride close to madness.
Thanks God sometimes only !
Does not mean some special sympathy for Poles.

hey are comfortable with Russian language

Language does not really matter.
I know a girl living in Kiev from a strongly nationalistic family (Lviv born).
She prefere to speak Russian ("it's easier to me") but her feelings are ... oh well ... like those of Stephan Bandera lol.

History / Ranking of the most dangerous and successful enemies of Poland. [32]

Thank God you added the 'lol' or I would have thought tht you might be serious and died on a heart attack.

Well ... my girl friend told me I'm a very nice guy.
With exception for my sick feelings for these two bags of contaminated fat.

Of course, the fact that many Czechs would rather cut their own throats than speak Polish means nothing, does it

Not true at all.
Many Czechs speak good Polish.
If necessary, due to their in-born pragmatism.

But I don't think it would be a good choice
Polish grammar is rather chaotic and pretty hard to learn.
I think some simplified version of the Slovak language could be a solution.

The idea to make Russian a Slavonic lingua franca sound bad to me even as a joke.
After we were forced to learn it !
And since when Russia is a part of the EU ?

Definitely losers!

Oh really ?
What makes you that sure ?

Every nation has its good and bad times.
Just look at map of Germany AD 1914 and now.
What was your international position before ww1 and what is now ?
Check your life standards 1989 and now as compared to other European countries.
One could rather say in the long run Germany is moving down the drain.
Your only political success during the last decades was given to you "auf einem golden Tablett" lol without any serious German participation.

But NO.
We don't call Germans losers in spite of their political madness from time to time.
Just ups and downs, ups and downs, achievements fully balanced wit drawbacks.

What are the good times from Serbia?

I think the idea of Yugoslavia was great.
Many post ww2 years Yugoslavia made a perfect picture of some successful pan-Slavic state but then came the destruction.
I don't try to make some conspiracy theories but at least Kosove separatism enjoyed the all possible support from the EU and NATO.

When you call THAT "moving down the drain" then I can't help you!

Well...Maybe you better try to comment on my posting regarding German borders and economy

Well...a majority of more than 95% Albos was about to be ruled by a hated minority of in most places less than 2% Serbs.

Then give Kreuzberg to the Turks.

As for Yugoslavia: the idea was good but reality by far worse - I don't argue about that.
The question was rather if todays situation is much better.

Who is doing that?

I wish I I could say Luxembourg and San Marino.
But what I mean are three top European economies including Allemania.
Schröder was a real disaster - Angie seems to be much better but even she underestimates Union's position in discussions with Kremlin !
It's not Russia making you a favor and selling some gas or oil.
It's exactly the opposite way !

And Germans are so hungry for business with Russia which is less than Belgium turnover lol.
So hungry that ready to forget Union's solidarity.

Firstly I can't see business with Russia as something bad and to avoid, quite the contrary.

Definitely but without any political conditions .
It's not a problem of the Baltic pipe but it's Russia trying to split European solidarity.
Making some general European energy deal with Russia would be of adventage for the EU.
Such a big deal includes better pricing, better terms of payment more stability for all.

Using a peak oil phantom Kremlin gains political points in case Georgia, Ukraine, NATO enlargement etc.etc.
And again - there is no need for that.
Take it for granted Russia had to sell raw materials in order to keep its business running.

Last but not least Baltic see.
It's gonna be the first big Baltic gas pipe and nobody knows what will be the final envivromental impact of it.
If I read Russian fleet will run some constructional works ...

PS. Your link is just diplomatic small talk.
In reality Russia had to reduce imports from EU.
I repeat: business is good, politics in business bad.
Expansion in Russia was always some German dream - I mean positive expansion not Adolf's way.
But please ... the last German economical results in RF were lower than in Czech Republic ...

WHAT DO YOU MEAN!!!!

As already said: NATO enlargement.
No way around it - Germany is an influential partner of USA and maybe is even able to stop the enlargement for some promised profits in Russia.

Who knows the details ?
The only thing we know is that Kremlin considers Ukraine to be a temporarily lost part of Russia.
So does an average Vanya as well.

But I'll give you another example.
Russia is going to construct a nuclear power plant in Kaliningrad.
And now guess:
who's gonna be the EU partner for the project ?
One of the partners.
The same country which decided to get rid of atom on its own soil within two decades and today is very nervous about planned construction of French atom plant in Western Poland.

Kaliningrad is a RUSSIAN type and quite close to Polish border.

And in Ukraine the polls show that a majority is AGAINST a membership in the Nato.

True but it hardly matters.
There is no need for any referendum and due to purely demographic reasons support for NATO is growing.
I spoke to many young Ukrainians and majority of them were for NATO.

After Bukarest NATO meeting Germany is considered to be the main Russian ally in this case.
Of course we don't know the details.

Lithuania, Poland and Germany are potential customers

Poland even didn't give any answer for the Russian offer.
Nobody can be happy having potential Czarnobyl just close to the border.

I have to agree with Crow with exception for Polish language being ligua franca for EU-Slavs.

Privet Sasha.
An "linguistic" suggestion from you ?
And I don't think any sort of Slavonic esperanto can solve the problem.
There are already some artificial creations like that but who speaks them ?

News / Poland's place in changing world order? [74]

First, nice to see you again Kostik.
Then, it would be quite an easy question given more or less normal conditions - the only historically justified position of Poland is becoming again the Western part of Russia.

Unfortunately enough I have serious doubts about future of our Slavic brothers.
Galloping decomposition of the Russian economy will be soon an accomplished process with some political disaster to follow.

Frankly I'm not sure Russia will be able to survive longer than 3 ... 5 years.
Just look at the main macroeconomic indexes :
GNP minus 10%, inflation rate plus 10%, planned budget deficit 2010 - 10%.
And all that facing the growing oil prices!

News / Poland's place in changing world order? [74]

You know well that Russia had never been economically powerful

Not quite true Kostik - look at the Russian Empire just before ww1.
It used to be number four or five worldwide.
But even without good position in those economical rankings you were able to produce high tech weapon on your own.
Today even India got problems with your military exports.
Not to mention the disastrous Bulava case.

So don't be afraid about Poland - we are your friends anyway.
We are not going to attack you like we used before.
Frankly who is keen on bordering China ?

So brothers take care of yourselves first.
We can wait.
Peredishka lol.

BTW. Kostya, how was your Revolution's Day ?

[

now we can combine our visits in Lenin's mausoleum with venerations of prince Pozharskiy's tomb.

What I'm still missing is Susanin's zombie
taking rest in Lenin's mausoleum.
Like Soso used to do.

BTW, are you still sobbing over Sapega's deed?

Oh, sentimental references to "1612" movie ?

But seriously Kostik.
It was disastrous for both nations.

In case of Sapieha's victory we would have been more successful (as the nation) and you Russians by far more civilized .
What a pity he died before his imminent victory !
Imagine us being one people but of course Poles as a ruling class lol.

News / Poland's place in changing world order? [74]

Borrka Poland should be the best Russian friend in EU .

It takes two for tango.
What Russia needs today is an image of some Russia's proven enemy but not one of the big shots from EU like Germany.
Poland is close to be a "perfect" enemy for propaganda of besieged fortress "Russia".
Kremlin knows they can trust in us.

why, you Poles, so inclined to live in Subjunctive Mood?

Better than some Alibaba's dreams.

News / Poland's place in changing world order? [74]

know the reality but honestly saying I see Poland as member of the east (capitalism without democracy) than the west in current shape ...

True but only to some extend.
One cannot get rid of hundreds years being linked part to the East part to the West within 20 years.
Secondly, your impressions are probably kinda superficial - don't get me wrong, it's not I'm saying Poland is perfect.
But sometimes people tend to understand economic misery like being "Eastern" (actually what's wrong about that ?).
Then, if you consider remains of communism like corruption, bureaucracy, lack of clean toilets to be Eastern i have to agree.
I know all ex-commie countries.
Believe me, all of us got similar problems.

Russia is surrounded by enemies.Literally.And some of them suicidal.

Then the next question has to be: WHY ?
Why so many quite different ethnoses don't like Russia ?
Any suggestions ?

History / Farewell of Slavianka - who is able to understand Poles ? [48]

Look at this video clip, listen to this great music: youtube.com/watch?v=3XywSEhJ1mI&NR=1

"Farewell of Slavianka" is a Russian march composed by Vasily Agapkin just before ww1.
Melody and very patriotic or rather nationalistic lyrics became an unofficial anthem of Kolchak's White Army.
Even Soviets decided to use the composition for propaganda 1941 (having on the beginning some problems with its "czarist" roots).

As far everything easy to understand.

Now we have to use YouTube again:

"Rozszumialy sie wierzby placzace" was a favorite march of the anti-communist and anti-Russian Polish Home Army (AK).
It was adopted for Polish partisans already after Katyn crime, with some new lyrics but being fully aware of its Russian imperialistic background.

Even me, Borrka, visiting Russian glubinka use to ask the local band to play Proshchanye Slovianki for me.
But first after several drinks and being in highly patriotic mood lol.

History / 9th November 1989: And the wall came tumbling down [113]

Germans are masters of universe in creating myths.
And they are successful!
You know why ?
They believe it.
They don't need to lie.

I'll give you just 3 examples:

-Prussians contribution decided about outcome of the Waterloo Battle
-German anti-Nazi underground
-German destroyed communism crying "Wir sind das Volk!' few days before fall of the wall in Berlin.

I'm sick of it.
Sorry.
