Real Estate / Why are homes in Poland more expensive than in the USA? [27]

After searching the real estate sites in Poland. I cant see that much difference in home prices in Poland compared to those in the US.. But here in America. Our wages are sooo much higher than in Poland. This makes home buying sooo much easier here in the US.

Language / Building site - Polish terms [8]

LOL!
This reminds me of a song that my father taught me a long time ago.
Malaze, mulaze coz wy tu budijecze
Pod jednym ciegelcie pod jednym ciegelcie
Do chmuru kladecie

Mulaze Mulaze co wam to poczebujecie
Czy waplo czy gliny
Czy pienkne drzewczyny
To wrzysko dostaniece

Please excuse my Polish spelling.. I have never been to Poland. This is what I learned from a Polish speaking household in the good old USA

USA, Canada / Rationing food in some US-based stores [32]

Dice;
Today, I asked that question to a guy that just returned from Poland the same question. I belong to another Polish Forum, so does he. He told me that his wife left him and returned to the States. He claimed that she hated the life in Poland????.The prices were high along with real estate.. The wages were low. They could not make it. He suffered a great financial loss. He is now back in the States vowing never again to leave

USA, Canada / Rationing food in some US-based stores [32]

Here we go again.(AMERICA BASHING). Did you guys ever think that Americans(And Canadians) are not affected by this. It is all about oil. America's farm lands that once produced grains, are now switching to corn to make ethenol. We too are feeling it. Milk went from $2.00 a gallon to $6.00. Rye bread from $1.50 a loaf to $4.00.. Come on give us a break.

We have a song here in America that describes all.

From purple mountains majesty

To amber fields of GRAIN.

Now we have corn

Life / Pączki Day, what day is it! [6]

Melancholia;
By all means. Use sour cream in your pierogi dough, It makes it real tender.. As far as I am concerned. That is the secret to good pierogi.

I also make my kluski with some sour cream. I never buy store bought ones. Home made kluski cook in three minutes. Whereas commercial noodles take 12 to 15 minutes

Life / Why is Polka music played in Poland so much different than in the USA? [36]

Mafketis! Yes, you upset me in the way that you said it.. But I can overlook your statement, because here in America. Our kids are doing the same things.. They have no ties to Polka music at all. I suppose it's all involved in which generation we come from.

Life / Why is Polka music played in Poland so much different than in the USA? [36]

Allow me to clear one thing up.When I posted this thread, there was no malice intended, it just my curiousity as to why it was so different.Let me give you a few examples as to what we listen to. Below is just one of many that I know

PONIEDZIA£EK RANO
W poniedziałek rano
Kosił ojciec siano,
kosił ojciec, kosił ja,
kosiliśmy obydwa.

A we wtorek rano
Grabił ojciec siano,
Grabił ojciec, grabił ja,
Grabiliśmy obydwa.

A we środę rano
Suszył ojciec siano,
Suszył ojciec, suszył ja,
Suszyliśmy obydwa.

A we czwartek rano
Zwoził ojciec siano,
Zwoził ojciec, zwoził ja,
Zwoziliśmy obydwa.

A zaś w piątek rano
Sprzedał ojciec siano,
Sprzedał ojciec, sprzedał ja,
Sprzedaliśmy obydwa.

A w sobotę rano
Stracił ojciec siano,
Stracił ojciec, Stracił ja,
Przepiliśmy obydwa.

A niedzielę z rana
Już nie było siana,
Płakał ojciec, płakał ja,
Płakaliśmy obydwa.
one of many that I know.

There are many more

Goral czy cie nie zal

Jak szybko mijaju chwile

Czyja ta drzewczyna

Glemboka Studzenka

Plynie Wisala

Wojenko Wojenko ETC.

If I made any mistakes in my Polish. Try to overlook it. For I have never been to Poland. This is my Polish American.LOL

Here is the recipe
about 3 qts of water
one ring of fresh Polish sausage

Boil for about an hour
Make a zapraska consisting of a half of cup of milk
A half cup of sour cream
Thicken with flour

Pour into soup. It will turn white with stirring until all lumps are gone.

Here is where you have to be carefull

Start with a table spoon of vinegar
stir>>>>> TASTE Add as needed to taste

YES EGGS are a must. Hard boil eggs and cut in half and add to the borscz...
SERVED WITH A GOOD SEEDED RYE BREAD

We too added ham and horse radish at easter
This is a matter of choice

ENJOY.. YOU ARE NOW ADDICTED TO WHITE BORSCZ

Life / Why is Polka music played in Poland so much different than in the USA? [36]

In America,we listen to Polish music that the immigrants brought over with them. We still sing the same songs today.
I was surprised that after joining this group, that every thing in Poland is rock???? What happend to the songs that your fathers sang?. At first I thought that it was just a generation gap. But we still dance to the same old music. Our kids do to.. This is all that they ever knew

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

Franek here again.
After WW2, Poland was left in shambles. Families were torn apart, there was no food. Guess who helped out..? The good old USA. Grains were shipped to poland so bread could be made to feed the hungry. Polish American sent care packages to those left behind. There were clothes, food medicin and the US dollar.. In those days it went a long way..There was not a week that went by that I would'nt go to the post office to send a package.

America is a melting pot. Clothes were donated by many ethnic people. This is how America grew to be a mighty nation,we all pulled together. We all pulled our own weight. We never whined or cried.. We did something about it.

AMERICA is a good country. Why does everyone expect us to do it all.
There was a saying after WW2. LEST WE FORGET That was so we would remember the horror years.

Franek here again, promised myself to stay out of this discussion. But the more I read the more PI**ed I become. ( America profited from the WW2) Bull S**T, AMerica financed WW2 Where do you think thst the war materials came from? We supp;ied RUSSIA,BRITIAN and all other Allies with them. Yeah, sure we got rich from the war. What about the reconstruction of Europe after the war. IT WAS AMERICAN MONEY.Ya"ll ever hear of the Marshal plan? Look it up. It;s on google. It looks like Expatroits history teacher escaped his coockoos nest again.

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

As I sit here and read the resposes to this thread, I get very frustrated that I cant express why in my mind, I can see why older Poles remember that America was always a friend.I know and seen things that history books do not mention.

I am speaking of your grandparents. How well That I recall
That when we freed villiages in Germany,The young girls that were forced to work on German farms greeted us as we liberated them. I still remember these pretty little things with thier babuskas, hugging us and kissing us.( THEY LOVED AMERICANS) Then there were the Poles conscripted in the German army.. They surrendered in droves. They had no desire to die for Hitler.(They loved us) for them the war was over.

Come to think of it,I was but 19 years old. Today I am a Dziadek. So these peop[le that I speak of were your Grandparents. You young folks have a lot to learn. Life is good for you now.But it was not always like that

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

I just looked this up on Google. There were 586,628 Thousand Americans killed in Europe during WW2 not counting the wounded and missing.. I wonder what Expatroits high school teacher thinks is so laughable about that.

I ask for no thanks for what I did in WW2. I was just one in many million Americans that were called to duty. We were at war.

I know that I will hear that there many more Europeans killed in that period. I just wish that I had the answer. I dont.SORRY

Piorun;
I ask for no credit for anything. I am an 83yr old man. I served my country (AMERICA) during WW2. I remember liberating a German slave labor camp and have a Polish prisoner on his hands and knees thanking me as I fed him my rations. He appreciated it.

Expatroit;
Did you ever think thsat Poland appreciates that America helped to defeat Germany in two world wars. This allowed Poland to become an independent nation again. Had it not been for America and other Allies. You might be wearing striped pajamas today.

History / Ancient Polish History thread [180]

How about this.

The Polish White Eagle
A thousand years ago, or maybe even more, there lived three brothers, Lech, Czech, and Rus. For many years they had been content in their villages, but the families grew larger and they needed more room to live.
The brothers decided to travel in different directions to search for new homes. Lech, Czech, and Rus traveled with their troops for many days. They rode their horses over mountains and rivers, through forests and wild country. There were no people to be found anywhere, not a town or tiny village. On the crest of a mountain top, they separated...

And, now you know how Poland began . .
