Life / Funny Polish/American movies [16]

Hello everybody, new to the board. I have just seen a movie called Kochaj albo rzuc. (1977) I believe it is of a 3 part series, I have seen the other 2 movies also. However, this movie made me laugh so hard I almost started crying. The parts that were hilarious are the ones where the Poles already living in Chicago speak half polish and half english. I grew up in the 70's, and my parents came from Poland to Chicago in the early 60's, but moved to WI in early 70's. Anyhow, when we would visit my grandparents in Chicago in the 70's, what I saw in this movie is exactly how I remebered it growing up. The American people I showed these parts to didn't get it, nor do the 100% polish people I know got it either. Only my 50/50 polish american friends I know laughed their heads off at these points in the movie. Does anyone knoe if there are any other similar movies like this out there? Thanks for your time.

Life / Funny Polish/American movies [16]

I saw that movie in Poland in 1984, I still remember the guy working at the theatre screaming at us that we were to young.

Life / Any MoPars in Poland? [2]

Hi guys. Just wondering if there are any Chrysler muscle cars in Poland. I just sold a 71 Cuda to a guy in Finland, and I was surprised that people there knew what this stuff was. He went on to inform me that the muscle car spirit is very alive and well in Finland, Sweden, etc. So then I was thinking, are there any in Poland? I never bothered asking my family members from over there, because I just figured they don't even know what a MoPar is. Any insight? Thanks in advance!

Life / Whippet dogs in Poland? [18]

Are whippets a popular dog in Poland? Just curious, don't see too many here in Wisconsin.

A whippet is a smaller version of a greyhound. I believe they were bred for rabbit hunting.

USA, Canada / Had to go to Canada to visit Polish cousins [5]

Went to Canada about a month back for my cousins wedding. I forgot the good old times we had every weekend when they all used to live in Chicago and visit us up here in Wisconsin. We always had a prazona (something like that) and campfires and cookouts and just doing the things Polish people do. Those days are gone for the most part now, as they all moved up to the great white north. Anybody else miss growing up with Polish relatives? It always gave me a break from the American lifestyle, not that I don't like it, it's just a different lifestyle. Anyone else agree?

Food / Favorite Pierogi? [56]

I can only do the fruit ones, like cherries, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, with a bunch of sugar loaded on the top. The ones with meat and cheese and butter and all that stuff gross me out. I almost barf just looking at them. Everybody says I'm nuts, but oh well.
