Life / Cool Polish names [133]

I like to look at the nameday names just to see which of my friends I should send greetings to. Today I noticed 3 names which I have not seen before and which struck me as unusual and interesting. Cool, actually.

Afrodyzy, Afrodyzjusz and, favourite, Afrodyzja

UK, Ireland / Poles and Britis - why we should hate each other? [38]

We hear an increasing number of stories about immigrant Poles being subject to violent attack.

I wonder how many of these attacks are the result of Poles shouting such things as "I can crack your ******* head wide open, mother*cker" and "You f*cking try me!" without realising the dangerous position they then put themselves in.

Its all jolly well saying dont be afriad to fight back against some thugs on the street but when you get stabbed, or smaked over the head with a brick, please, dont complain that everyone in Britiain is out to get the Poles.

It is only a small metaphorical step from not caring if they took a bullet in the head to actively wanting to do it. People on the forum complain about terrorists hiding amongst civilians but fail to understand that many of these so called terrorists are civilians who have taken that small metaphorical step.

Im not implying that you do Wroc, afterall, you have a comfortable family life many miles from any armed conflict.

If, on the other hand, you lived in a war zone, had to watch your wife and children being humiliated daily by an insulting and agressive occupying force then that metaphorical step might not seem such a leap.

As you say, its actions like these that lead to more anger from militants... or normal family men who just arent going to take it any more.

And my point is that potentially, its a very fine line that divides the two.

This growing anti-muslim sentiment is fast resembling the anti-communist witch hunts of the McCarthy era, which bordered on hysteria. It shows that people are as easily manipulated now as they were 50 years ago.

Are we going to see the same agressive purges of those who hold real or suspected Islamic sympathies as America witnessed of perceived communists?

I suspect you are quite young Darius and that 'always' isn't actually a very long time, unless of course you are wanting to go back to the days of the Crusades. In my lifetime, anti-muslim sentiment has grown considerably.

The wholesale slaughter of all groups, ethnic, religious or other, by the Germans and Russians during WWII should be included in the toll of the 'Holocaust". It was not just Jewish phenomena and they should not hold or claim sole right to it.

Nope. That would demand a degree of forward planning that I am quite unable to muster. It is, however, within my capabilities to plan a month or so ahead and that is normally sufficient if I am flexible in my travel dates within a day or so.

yeah I found it odd also.

Oh, I understand this guy's mentality and know exactly where he is coming from. I dont agree with him for one minute. He expemplifies the counter argument of this thread; the reluctance of Jews to accept that they aren't the only ones to have suffered.

He will be the first to cry 'anti-semetic' at anything he perceives as critical of his people whilst failing to recognise that he represents the very attitude that so many people find offensive of the Jews. Unfortunate, but true.

I believe in the right to pre-emptively shoot people who might habour criminal ideas, even if they havent had these ideas yet but might have them at some point in the future. Experience has shown us that good people can sometimes become bad people. It is better to shoot them pre-emptively now, than take the risk that they might turn into bad people at some point in the unforeseeable future. This is your right and you re doing it to protect your family.

If it was as simple as that Seanus then why not just say that as a human being, everybody has the right to live in the same way as everybody else. An idealogically sound proposal but out of touch with the real world and a pretty silly thing to say.
