I think that is why the standard isn't "I'm not home right now" anymore. Mostly "unable to answer the phone" is used more, maybe it's a security issue, not sure.

I just think it's just newpapers and TV reporting make it seem like there is a problem.

I live in the U.S in Atlanta where there is 400 murders per year (not including metro cities here) but everyday living is pretty nice. It'd be an intensely rare situation if you ever saw a gun fight (since most here use guns and not knives). Even in the rough sections...

So, not much of a point, but the statistics don't really make it seem as the Polish have severe problems, only haters and those who want a story.

I don't live there, but of the hudreds of stories and blogs I've read, no one ever sees this. Gangs are worldwide, so it's silliness to single this out.

It'll try to tackle anything you throw at it. :) Real words sound a lot better though. I've noticed it even places the stress on the words where they should be. I don't know. I like it. I'll continue to use it.

I use it quite a bit. Even though most things I can pronouce after reading it a few times so it has a "flow" but sometimes I can't. I'll copy paste the word in and pow! nice flow.

But at the end of the words I'm with you on the n. You have many of the same questions I have.

I don't feel comfortable enough to say that to people I don't know. I'd rather sound like a robot, and maybe give someone a smile with my robotic proper Polish (although...I like to think I sound great). I frequent Polish shop's, and always get a friendly response.

On a side note, my mom didn't know what cześć was, and she understands nearly all Polish pretty well (though, she was born in the U.S). I taught her. I'm almost a master I guess. :)

Ah, thats to bad. I guess I can understand though that there is a newspaper publication in English in Poland though, since (in my case) there are quite a few in Polish (and Spanish and...) here in the U.S and A. :)

20+ posts after mine, all of whom didn't think I said people from the UK hate Poles. I didn't say come to the U.S because the English hate you. How would I know if Englishmen don't like Poles. I don't live there, and sadly haven't traveled there yet.

Hi guys, just saw this thread.

I'm from Wisconsin too, and about 6 years or so I guess I moved to Atlanta (well, Lawrenceville). I was surprised to see a respectable Polish community. In fact, just 30 minutes ago I just got done having lunch at the Gimza, an authentic Polish restaurant. Very nice people! Food is very comforting too, like homemade like my mom made. I prefer my moms because...well, its my moms!

Also in Lawrenceville there is a Polish general store, and on Pleasanthill Road there is Polish Traditions Deli, a nice little Polish store. They don't have their liquor licence yet though, so don't expect to get beer while chatting it up with the owner (super nice guys!)

I'm mentioning those places because you will be able to chat it up easily because again, such nice people, they can give you all you want. And like the others mentioned, there is Polish mass on sundays at 2 in Norcross, etc. It's here. Not like where I a fro, but it's here. :)

I hope this helps some. And if nothing else, it's a good activity to go take a ride to see.

This isn't quite the same, but each drill like sentence has the translation. I've personally found it extremely helpful. I can break down words and meanings easier this way, as opposed to paragraphs where I'm not sure how things are placed. Maybe you know this site already, but maybe someone else can benifet.
