UK, Ireland / Experiences of Irish people who moved to Poland [27]

Are there any Polish people near Krakow on here?

Related:

Do English/Irish people trust Polish businesses?

I am not wondering about simple stuff such as shops etc. but about more serious commitments like a wedding photography.

Outside of Poland, without a doubt. Polish workers do have a good reputation, and I think for professional services such as wedding photography, they're no less trusted than natives.

In Poland however is a different story - many foreigners in Poland have had bad experiences with Polish businesses. In this respect, I'd say that it's partially language barrier and partially "let's rip off the foreign guy" - as well as naivety on the part of the person buying the service.

Ultimately, due diligence is everything.

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland, are they second class citizens? [90]

I have made a life for myself here and I do like it here

I realised you are Dutch, it is a great country, incredibly forward thinking. Yeah don't expect to many brain cells from a chickadee, funny anecdote.

Is there a thread on Anecdotes? would be good for a laugh. I am sure all people living abroad could easily contribute.

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland, are they second class citizens? [90]

I agree, Dublin especially, I am from Dublin and I hope it is a minority of people to feel, think or say this???
I found that after 800 years of immigration, there are about 3.5 mill Irish in Ireland and 70 mill Irish world wide and that is not even the bad part...

. And soon after we got rich quick there were horrifying discussions about all these "F***ing Nigerians here".
I live in Poland and I really hope Polish people in my country are generally being threated with the same hospitality as I receive here, keeping in mind there are always dopes, such is life, even on this forum.

I also think that this is the first mass migration that Poland has had in a while, and you know bad news sells. I hope you are not there just for the money, at least at this stage MareGaea? I mean that you have made a life for yourself? I have here in Poland

Life / Polish attitudes towards drinking alcohol [72]

I made my own beer from scratch for over 10 years.

Whose recipe did you use? if

We lost our brewing tradition during prohibition

,
So you are saying that your new micro brews are at the same standard as old recipes?
Anyway I was not just talking about American beer not being good, I was talking about Americans and their non-appreciation to the extent that you had to brew your own for ten years?

And again I will mention prohibition, America banned alcohol, although thanks to "the real MacCoys" of this world it was still being brought over to you!

Life / Polish attitudes towards drinking alcohol [72]

I think that the topic should be "why can't wimpy Americans handle their drink?",
3 bud light and you're an alcoholic?. You tried prohibition, it didn't work.
I do make the distinction between "use and abuse" for all substances, but it depends on the person and Americans don't appreciate good beer, point in case they don't produce any!

Three things about Poland and Ireland that are similar are.
1. A bad history
2. Catholicism
3. We have whiskey and Poles have Vodka.

Real Estate / Buying a Polish Property .... and losing it! [2]

The following thread started well and lost it (just like the property owner)!

I thought the topic stopped because the buyer did not give enough information to discuss. It read a bit like scare mongering. Three years later, taking the house from his Polish wife??. I agree with your b) tried to go cheap and hired a solicitor who did not do the job right.

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland, are they second class citizens? [90]

Just a quick point on the main topic. I read an artical the other week about how Ukrainians were in sweat shops illegally around Krakow, their passports were taken and threatened that if they did not work long hours for little pay they would be deported.

Ireland has a long history of immigration, there are about 3.5 million Irish people in Ireland and 70 million people outside of Ireland in the world that hold Irish passports. 40 million of them are in America. And it annoyed me how quickly Irish people forgot this and talked down "eastern Europeans".

It seems the same might be happening here?

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Why would you suppose I thought Russia was the greatest country?

No nation was ever so virtuous as each believes itself, and none was ever so wicked as each believes the other.

Come on give us a smile, just a quick one, please

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

I believe that that Russians-East and Polish-West are very different.
Russia lost an insane amount of people when they beat Hitler, unfortunately for Poland it was out of the frying pan and in to the fire when Russia took the spoils from Poland. But in a historical context that is what countries do.

I just don't like the way Russia is play a bully with their energy.
