Language / What do all the Polish single letter words mean? [13]

Hmm.. so i is used for agreement, a is used for disagreement. (That is what I am implying from your examples).

Dziękuję. (BTW, I have like 5 different keyboards on my machine, and I think Polish (programmers) is the easiest to use. The foreign words are easy to find just by clicking ALT + letter, except the ź which is on the x, but nevertheless easy).

Life / Daylight Savings Time in Poland [15]

That is probably why I couldn't meet my talking appointments. I enjoy the longer daylight, although it is kind of weird to still have light out at 8 in the evening. The only thing bad is the first day, when you lose an hour of sleep. Although if someone changes the clocks for you without you knowing, the loss has no effect.

Life / Polish-English Bilingual Bible [29]

Do they exist? I know that the Bible has been translated into almost every language if not all, but do the bilingual version (PL-EN) exist?

If so, where did you see it, or find it, or get it? Also, which version is the closest version to the NIV(standard English so the most standard Polish)?

Dziękuję

Life / Polish-English Bilingual Bible [29]

I am learning on my own on learning Polish. But it is quite slow and almost baby-ish. I will continue to learn the traditional way learning vocabulary, grammar, verbs, etc, but the bilingual books will help in my reading, putting to use the understanding of my standard learning, and also speaking, when I try to say the words.

I have a few bilingual works PL-EN but they are not hard copy. I am looking for something I can hold in my hand.

Language / Polish keyboards - layout difference or QWERTY? [6]

The Polish Programmers is the one that I use. It is almost the same as the American qwerty, except the specific Polish letters are the RIGHT-ALT keyed versions of their regular letters.

Ą - R ALT + A
Ć - R ALT + C

the - and Ż is just right next to each other.

Life / Polish-English Bilingual Bible [29]

Lol I already know how to speak basic things, I'm just looking for something that is translated and side-by-side and something I can hold in my hand. I tried looking, and they're hard to find unless they are electronic. I know that there are many bilingual bibles in almost every language so I tried to look for those.

EDIT: oh yea that thing in the profile, I should change it to 'Just a little bit'

Well, I hope so..

But why should I be careful if I am getting what I want? was it something about the hand?

Life / Polish-English Bilingual Bible [29]

sorry i have to ask, did you mean to call yourself that or did you just fill in the wrong box on the profile screen?

Lol, I meant to call myself this. I didn't think I would last too long here. I was here for a lot of the resources, and when time came when I needed to ask specific questions, I used this name just to get by.

However, this forum is very nice and there are many good people and very interesting and intelligent as well as humorous conversations, and I decided to get more involved in things other than the language. Some people I know also got me involved in Polish culture and this place is great to talk about it. I wish I could change the name if that were possible.

New Testament bilingual Polish/English NKJV $14.95

It is a great find indeed and thanks for it....

But it is not the full bible (I like the OT stories and their vivid descriptions of the miracles and the battles). Also it is not the NIV version which I am accustomed to. Also, in my original post, I had a question: What is the most standard regular language bible(w/o the extra books, forgot what those were called).

//Like the NIV is modern compared to KJV.

USA, Canada / Polish food in Rockland County, NY [7]

Its very up north in NY State, not the city. Or was it just a little bit above NYC, I might be getting confused with Rochester County... I am pretty sure it is up north somewhere... actually no not anymore.

Language / Greetings, to much respect? [23]

Cze ziomy (yo dudes) ;)

Lol does that really mean 'yo dudes'? I didn't know this type of slang existed! That is very refreshing and funny to hear.

Language / (part 2) Polish Language Pronunciation - Sample Words and Phrases [311]

Merged:Pronouncing n and ń

What is the difference between these two when they are put in front of consonants or at the end of words such as...

Dzień
Dzien(I don't know if this is a real word but just for differentiating the pronunciation)

hańba
hanba(I don't about this either)

Language / (part 2) Polish Language Pronunciation - Sample Words and Phrases [311]

From using that thing I hear the the dzień with the ń on the 'e' it is a little more curved sounding than dzien. In musical terms, I would say that the e in dzień has a legato, if I am making any sense. lol

Btw, does that machine pronounce fake words too?

Language / (part 2) Polish Language Pronunciation - Sample Words and Phrases [311]

I'm pretty sure in spoken language, the distinction isn't very clear. Unless of course it is in the beginning of vowels. But I do understand the difference in sound when you raise your tongue against the roof of your mouth when saying the ń and n. It is different.

ling.pl is also very good, some words you search, sometimes answer back in the phrases they are most commonly used in.

USA, Canada / New York trip suggestions [56]

I went there, it was all right, but not what I had expected. The Met is always a popular spot for both art and music. There is also Lincoln Center. For jazz, I am not so sure, NYC isn't really known for jazz (or so I think).

Did they finally let people in/even look at it? I haven't been in that specific area of NY in a few years.

USA, Canada / New York trip suggestions [56]

Perhaps that is true, but I never associated NYC with jazz. Rather the former New Orleans and the cities down south. Maybe a bit more of the northern cities above NYC. Yes, there is a jazz scene in NYC, I don't doubt that.

Oh yea, if you want to go a little bit outside of NYC, there is also Hoboken, NJ where many NYC visitors also go to visit.

Life / How much is a bag of chips in Poland? [28]

Like a bag of chips in the US is 99 cents or a dollar let's say...

How much is a bag of chips in Poland? 1 Złotych? I am trying to understand what the standard money unit is. In some countries 1 USD could be like 1000 of WHATEVER but that 1000 doesn't mean anything, it's only a number. Anyone understand what I'm saying?

Life / How much is a bag of chips in Poland? [28]

Lol you guys made a huge fuss about this. I should've been more cogent with my question. I just wanted to know if the 1 zloty was the standard base amount of cash.

I said a bag of chips because its always a dollar which in the US is the standard base...

Life / How much is a bag of chips in Poland? [28]

Ok ok thanks. That is all I wanted to know. I know about the currency rates, I am not blind to the technology available. Just wanted to see what the Polish consider as a dollar, not how much the dollar's exchange rate is.
