History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Controlling your resources is different then using your resources to control others and that's clearly what Russia is doing..

Give Russia a break, they are getting a break..... that anybody is even dealing with them is generous enough...

Poor Russia being invaded, are you serious.... majority of times Russia has been doing the invading... and not only invading but the slaughtering.... Russia has mostly if not always been the aggressor in its history and not the victim...

why has Nato been expanding?? hmmm could it be that Russia is not trustworthy... what has Russia to fear, Nato would never attack Russia first... Nato is an organization for defence not attack...same goes for the shield. what now are you denying countries the right to build their defences.

you don't see the US or Poland complaining that Russia is building anti missle systems.. why? actually better question is why is Russia complaning?

hostility? you must not know the definition of that word.... what's hostile saying your going to build a system just in case missles are shot at you or were going to aim our nuclear missles at you...

good try, trying to pass off Russia as a victim...however its clear Russia is sour about losing the Cold war and is trying to regain their status as a superpower.... good luck, its never going to happen..

foreignor,

why don't you try listening to your own advice...practice what you preach...

as I recall I don't remember any other country orchestrating a cyber attack, threatening countries with nukes, using oil to control countries, poisoning its former agents on another countries soil.. etc.... shall I continue?

Silly Russians Trix are for Kids....

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

After all paszka said, don't ask to give Russia a break, it must earn it and show its willing to work with the international community to solve problems and not create them...

Poles occupied Russia 400 years ago, Russia occupied Poland and all of eastern Europe 25 years ago, theirs is a difference..... Poland hasn't been a threat to Russia for 400 years and still Russia feels the need to be the agressor...

Please feel free to tell me the mistakes Poland has committed in the last 20 years.. I have tons for Russia....

You seem to agree that Russia made mistakes and so what....... nothing is being done to change that from happening again....

Russia is no where near its status as in the Cold war.. if you can accept your declined status then we can all move on....

Btw no one denies what mistakes Russia has made under Putin, yet he enjoys huge support..... obviously Russia is not sorry for its behavior so don't play it off like you are...

also America is preparing itself in case Russia decides to attack... America would never attack Russia first.... not so sure about Russia.... their acting very childish lately...

Paszka You don't see the difference.... lol I can see a difference of 375 years.... by the way Polands invasion of Russia saved you from Ivan the terrible... Where's the thank you.

Poland is not the only country in Europe who has problems with Russia... I can name dozens..

No major mistakes by Poland, however I can name major mistakes by Russia..which I already did....

News / Tusk's Proposal to Change Poland Constitution [27]

Prime minister Donald Tusk has advocated changes in the Constitution to eliminate excessive possibilities of blocking government initiatives by the president and opposition parties. In Tusk's opinion, all governing powers should be vested in the election victor.

I support many of the changes to the constitution that Tusk is proposing. However one change he is advocating is very troubling. Tusk wants to reducing the power of the opposition to block proposals. I am very curious to see to what extent he wants to reduce their power. This is can be very troubling if its taken to the extreme for the simple fact that this can lead to abuse. One may trust Tusk and his government, however whose to say that in the future we may not be so lucky.

However on a positive note taking away immunity for politicians and reducing there numbers seems like a wise and very intresting idea. I guess we can wait and see to hear more of the details of his plan.

btw If anybody has links with more information on this topic please feel free to post them, it would be very much appreciated.

News / Tusk's Proposal to Change Poland Constitution [27]

That is true, Polish politics is notorious for squabbling.... I see the temporary benefits, especially at a time when Tusk is trying to approve much needed economic reforms that are controversial with the opposition. Not to mention his change in foreign policy that the opposition also disapproves off. To tell you the truth its not Tusk that Im worried about, its more about the government that can come to power in the future. However I guess its reasonable if this is done properly.

btw given our friendly history, that's the reason why I wasn't sure if your being sarcastic....

Constantine, please stop being an idiot....... ... don't get angry at Poland for being so close to US. If Russia knew how to behave, Poland wouldn't need such a close relationship. Blame Russia not Poland.

Carol, Iran is not a threat to Poland.. they actually just signed an oil deal for 1 billion. However Russia is a threat that needs to be contained.... and might I add Poland and US are doing one he*l of a job so far....

For US, Its probably against Iran and a small extent Russia.... For Poland its about Russia and who knows any other country that can turn into an enemy of Poland...... So what , are you telling me a country can't build defensive weapons.... My friend can you say defensive.... meaning only if we get attacked.... why would Russia be so angry with a weapon that will be used to protect Poland and not attack Russia? Does Russia want to keep the option open of attacking.....

I don't care if the shield is used to protect us from the Pope.... the shield is defensive and if your not planning on attacking, you have nothing to worry about.....

Also I don't recall Poland or US crying about Russias anti air defence systems....

JaneKB doesn't realize(lack of education)that Russia is using Gasprom as political tool, is rolling back democracy, is responsible for cyber attack on Estonia, is threatening Poland with nukes for building DEFENSIVE weapons, has killed dissents on foreign soil, etc.....

Please educate yourself on what Russia is up to before you respond to this post...

Also educate yourself on China, its going to take them at least 50 years to catch up to the US.

PS the shield is in polands interest.... a package worth 20 billion, much more then Russia can offer... not to mention we are still trading with Russia regardless of our intention to base the shield...

according to your logic, lets just get rid of the entire Polish military then....lol while where at it the whole police force.... why need that.... or the fire department... no use for that either... we can save a lot of money....

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

First Poles don't resent the German Pope, he recieved a huge audience when he visited Poland.....

Your "polish" Pope couldn't do it either...

The Polish pope was one of the best Popes we ever had... He improved Catholic-Jewish relations, Catholic-Muslim relations and he did accomplish a lot with Catholic-Orthodox relations.

He maybe didn't reunite the two churches but he did more than any other Pope has done to breach the differances between us.

and try to be more secular in their heart and minds

Sure let's just follow the social downfall that's happening in western EU, not to mention it is our religion that destroyed communism. Poles are religous but they are not extreme. They love the church but also respect and love science. I think Poland has managed to find the right balance. Not saying the church is not irrational sometimes but that doesn't mean that we should throw out all the church's teachings. I am not very religous either but I can find the beauty of Polish devotion to the church.

It's not a blind devotion either... Poles question the church just as many others in western EU, but just because we don't agree with all teachings doesn't mean we disregard all else.

zenit.org/article-16955?l=english

Speech where the German Pope so called offended Islam....... He didn't lie, Islam believes in the spreading of its religion by the sword if need be. He has a right to critize such ideology. It was not expected and didn't help with Catholic-Muslim relations but it's not like he wasn't right.

Also you can't critize the Pope for serving in Hitler's youth.... These were children who did not understand the full grasp of there choices(if they even had a choice). If he served in the army than that would be another story.

Almost forgot, if you think what the Pope said about Islam(which is true) is even remotely comparable to what the immans say in there medressa's against Christians(which is 90% BS) than your ____________(adj). I'll leave that blank........mad libs anyone........

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

I wouldn't dream of disregarding Pope Benedict simply because he's German. But Poles, who in an inconsistent political landscape have always been consistently Catholic, had so much pride in John Paul II. Let us not forget that Solidarity might not have happened if it weren't for the elation and national pride that swelled with the Pope's election and visit in the late '70's. Polish Catholicism have survived three partitions, Nazism, and Soviet Communism, all that were out to destroy it. The Vatican, itself, abandoned Poland a few times, and yet it survived. It's not that we RESENT the German Pope, its just that John Paul II meant so much to us.

Also nicely put.........

Okay, I will give on my initial prejudism against Pope Benedict being German, and in Hitler's youth, for lack of FULL information. It does appear that he just was in it, and not in the army. I was thinking of the youths near the end of the war, who fought while Hitler committed suicide. There's 100 years of Governments murdering people last century, that I called this one prematurely.

To be honest I also had that initial reaction, but when I sat down and thought about it I realized the complicated reality of the day...

As for Pope Benedict: No, I do not feel in my heart that he said anything wrong, in that speech that infuriated Islam, except for one important point: HE is the leader of the Catholic Church, and needs to make sure as a WORLD LEADER, that he works towards healing the world, bringing it together. JP2 got that part down pat.

Agreed, Benedict should have focused on the positives not negatives between Catholics and Muslims as JP did, but it was not as such a big deal as everybody made it seem. Also it was the Pope's first year, he's no JP and probably will never be, but I think we should give him some time to learn the ropes. Filling JP's shoes is not easy....

I'm more than sure that JPII would not glad if he knew that some people practice his personal cult. It has nothing to do with Catholicism.

Cult, what cult..... If you consider love for the Pope and what he has done a cult, than I guess all I have to say is sign me up

If nationality isn`t important why is Benedict a German?

because he was born in Germany.... why in Germany, that you will have to ask God....

In other thread you appear to be Clinton fan, here claim to be Catholic. What is the reason of this inconsistence? You don't know Clinton political agenda or teaching of the Catholic church? Because these two things don't go along...

What inconsistency.... You can be a Catholic and vote Clinton..... what are you saying a Catholic can only vote for a Catholic. Good explanation is, she doesn't agree with all of Clinton's views or she doesn't agree with all of the churches views. Doesn't mean she can't support both.

I support Obama and he's muslim ...... Good people can be found in all faiths.

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

This might be odd and impossible, but I would support a Obama/McCain ticket... Nothing better would be for this country than a President and a Vice President from two differant parties... Would go a long way to heal the divisions in Politics.

Parties should be in competition but a healthy competition and not the dirt you see now... they should realize when it's time for the competition to be over and when it's time to work together for the common good. IMO

Now Im not naive and realize this could backfire.... If the parties can't agree there could be a stalemate... However I have enough faith that with so much at stake, parties will have no choice but to find common ground....

Worst case scenerio the President can override the VP if they can't agree....

Now since this is impossible my next choice would be what Juilie said.........

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

Do you want all schools in the world to learn history by the Polish curriculum?

No not necessarily but let's be honest here, Poland's contributions have been underestimated in many textbooks from other countries.

Which I may add is very tainted in its Polishness the same way as other countries are.

We should remove all exaggerations no matter in what textbook be it Polish, English, American, French or what have you. Out of curiosity can you be more specific about Polish exaggerations in their textbooks...... None seem to come to mind.
