Genealogy / COUNT AND COUNTESS DECROIX [15]

hmmm, you can check it in GUS. I also associated with Morskie Oko, there are some residences for ex. at Dworkowa st, but I think it belonged to radziwill. There is also Palac Szustra, it's on the hill but I'm not sure, because it was...Szuster's palace.

It's very difficult, because most mansions were demolished during the war. Well, Warsaw was demolished in 90% at all.

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

well, i was taught to keep wallet, id and other important things close to my body. not in the bag or somewhere else. this is basic rule during travelling. I have never ever been robbed in train in Poland, Ukraine, Russia or even in former yugoslavia countries.

Kawasaki rocks, it's incredible. but Verka serduchka is good also. i cant believe that I've got 2 CDs with this kind of music. i bought it in Ukraine. whatta souvenir :)

In Bulgaria there's also famous "drag queen", but Verka and Wisniewski are image amateurs comparing to Chalga music star Azis.

and HUGE hit from my childhood :)

Life / International influence of disco polo music produced in Poland [18]

Excuse my complete ignorance, folks, but this crap sounds like a drunk John Travolta singing on a Turkish wedding party. :)

Is this really popular at the moment?

Fortunately not in Poland :) but in Balkans or in ukraine, yes.
I go to Balkan very often and now nothing suprises me there, especially their music :)

Travel / how do i know which " schronisko" is the best to stay? [6]

"Morskie oko" i do not recommend: lots of tourists, expensive and loudly. ble

But basically where do you go? to tatra mountains, beskidy, bieszczady, karkonosze...etc? :)

There are many quite good "shelters" in mountains. In Lupków "in the end of the wolrd ;)" nice and cheap.

It depends on what do you prefer, because for ex Lupkow has no electricity, water etc (well, there's a well :) )
"pod rawkami", PTTK in Wetlina, "Chatka Puchatka"- everything is in Bieszczady
"magura malastowska".

In tatra there good places, but they are expensive and looks like hotel, so it depends on what do prefer.

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [178]

The pairs rz/ż, u/ó and ch/h were once pronounced differently and still are in certain dialects of Polish, but for the standard Polish the pairs are identical.

I remember I was learned different prounouciation in primary school . I had very officious teacher - it wasn't so much time ago ;)

Life / Kozak - compliment or insult in Poland? [12]

It's neither a compliment nor an insult. It's sometimes used to describe
someone as being overly daring and cocky, but also it may express some
sort of admiration for one's bravery for example.

But if you say

"On kozaczy"

It has negative meaning

Travel / train @ bus from warsaw to budapest? [17]

yes there is a direct train from Warsaw to Budapest, but it's quite expensive, I think. it costs about 470 (return ticket). the journey takes about 11 hours. There is cheaper connections going by bus. There are a lot of direct connection form Warsaw for ex Ecolines, Eurolines or Orangeways (it's the chepast, I think- one-way ticket costs 70 zl=17 EUR) but it starts from Cracow.

I'm going to go Budapest next week on Friday, so that's why I know a bit ;)
