I've seen one or two beggars in Krakow in my several visits but no great number. I would expect to see that where there are many tourists to be fair. They are certainly fewer in number than in my home city of Manchester.

Yes indeed! I try to ignore them mostly but the sheer numbers mean that they do catch your attention sometimes.

If he is in the UK I suggest he goes into his nearest police station and explain how he wants to get married. He should impress upon the desk sergeant that he is here illegally and how he knows that marriage will legitimize his status.

The police will be more than helpful, they will even arrange a lawyer for him. :)

Although avoiding a European war would be desireable in itself, would invasion and occupation of Germany be in the best interests of Europe? Especially a Germany that was already making huge leaps forward in economic output and where nationalistic feeling was rising. We may have been able to avoid Hitler in hindsight but there would have been a successor to him.
