I lived in Poland during 1970/80, I still live here today, and even now, when I'm unemployed for several month, I would not have the communism (or whatever it really was) back.

Today I can expect that things will be one day better, the crisis will not be there forever. Back then it was just misery and hopelessness.

This is not racist. It was just a joke. And quite funny at that.
Maybe if that was published in some Western country, it would be racist. But here, its just funny, because Poland is not racist country.
And were is no rasism there is also no need for antiracism.
We just dont care about these things. Yes, if you demand some special treatment because your skin is black or your hairs are red, you will be ridiculed. And rightly so.

Maybe it is funny to me becouse I dont have anything against Turks. So I cannot treat it seriously. With, say Frenchmen, now it would sound nasty, drowning these people could be too pleasent ;-)

I do know why someone can have a personal experiennce of "racist Poles". Lets say, a reckless driver crashes into my car. I got mad from anger, I just bought it. And if that driver was black, he would be convinced that I'm crazy racist.

But I'm not, I'm just furious about my damaged car. So I will call him names,the ones I know from TV and books, that are the most offensive to the black people. Not because I care, even in the slightest, about his skin colour. Because I'm furious about my damaged car. I belive, I would restarain myself in the case of a a woman, but a man I'd like to offend as much as posslible ;-) About anything I think would be offensive to him.

Then, from what I gathered, in some Western countries, white guy would be affraid to sound "racist". But, why I should care about that is beyond me.

Why?
Even in the middle of communism, a great majority of Poles believed, that US is the greatest country of the world. Seriously, I thought that too.

Today, this belief is not that strong, but some of it still lingeres.
So, if you have to emigrate, why would you opted for the second best option, while you can get THE best. Maybe illegally, but as there is no a legal way...

1. I consider myself Catholic.
2. I do support in vitro (maybe I dont understand it LOL).
3. And while I dont like abortion, I dont believe it should be baned by law.

Just eat as much or as little as you feel is enough for you. It is not offensive to leave something on your plate.
As a matter of fact, if guest have eaten everything, it means I am a bad host. I prepered not enough food.

About the "taking off your shoes" thing, I for one dont care if someone keeps them on or not (unless it is REALLY dripping with mud) and never comment on it.

But, when after entering someone else's house, the first thing I hear is "Keep your shoes on" I know it actully means "Dont forget to take off your shoes".

Maybe just not particularly bigoted one. There is no law stating that every Catholic has to be a bigot, you know.

I know the rationale behind Church's opposition to in vitro, I have priest in my family, I just find it preposterous.
Catholic Church opposes many strange things, but that has no power of the Decalogue. These are just suggestions, the hints. One has to decide for himself what is good, what is bad, and what is irrelevant. You can call it arrogance, but I consider a little arrogance better then blind obedience. One has to remember that historically Church opposed heliocentric theory.

Because what? Because you have the power to decide what Catholicsm is? Going by your definition, maybe 15% of people who consider themselvs Catholics are "the real thing". At least among people I know. I, for one, am anticlericall Catholic. I oppose the influence of the clergy in political affairs or on our private lives. Is that illogical for you? So down with the logic. Who cares.

Ouh well, I guess I'm not all that religious myself. For me, being Catholic is just going to the right church every sunday...
Come to think about that, I dont know why I started to argue the thing in the first place. I do like that there are still the people adamant about religion, but the close encouters with them somehow irritates me... I got the feeling they closed theirs minds, because some "authority" has told one thing, so it has to be right, despite any arguments.

Its just I despise the set collections of convictions.
One can be Catholic and still support in vitro.
One can be liberal and support the capital punishment.
