First of all, we fought Poles as long as we fought Russians. As you know many times we gave a good spanking - to both of ya. Ukrainians defended themselves on different fronts: Polish , Russian, German. Some viewed that with an alliance with Germany it will sooner be independent, others - considered Germany as a main agressor and defended their land in the Soviet army. Either side ultimately realized that the only way to become independent is to fight ferociously against all. Not having many men, many used teror as a tactic.

Second, how do you know if they were Ukrainians or Russians when even now after Ukraine is independent for 18 years, many Poles I talked to, don't have a slightest idea in language, cultural and historical differences between the two. It is a historical fact that KGB did put on UPA military form to discredit them. With this I don't want to say that UPA didn't kill Poles as well - they did.

Third, we always fought and I am proud of Ukraine. 400 years and still WE, UKRAINIANS, WON OUR INDEPENDANCE. russians tried to destroy it by killing writers, scientists, poets and even regular people who had a different opinion. People to whom I bent my head and knees fought for my country , paid by blood and resurrected it. Without them, there would be no Ukraine. Saying that russia gave us independance is sick and most importantly ignorant, but I know that you say that because you want to hurt, not because you know the truth.

Fourth, do you know that out of 8.7 million Soviet soldiers fallen in WW2, 1.4 million were ethnic Ukrainians? It is almost 17%. Those that fough is estimated between 4.5 and 7 millions (big gap because of ethnic factor discrepancies). Germans suffered 93% of their losses on the Estern front. Total loss by my country is estimated 7 million people during WW2. And you dare to say that somebody gave us freedom?!!!!!!!! I hate Soviet Union myself for what it did to many generations, but many Ukrainians also died on Polish fields fighting Germans along with your partisans. So Sokrates, be kind to the fallen and be grateful that they gave us whatever we have now.

In many of these battles as well as Berestechko, Poles bribed Tatars so they escaped from battlefield (pussy tactics on Polish account). In Berestechko, when bribed Tatars left, taking Chmelnickij as a hostage with them, cossacks fought like men and some gave their life holding Poles so the rest can safely retreat. And dear Sokrates, don't forget Sahaydachnyj, who in 1616 took 42,000 of cossacks to save Vladislav Vasa and Chodkiewicz from Turkish army at Khotin and sultan Osman ll retreated. Varna (10,000 navy destroyed), Synop, Kaffa were burned by cossacks in rescue of imprisoned christians. Before that they were considered unapproachable port fortresses.

For russians it was Konotop battle where they lost 30,000 men in one day! Before 20,000 Sahajdachnyj troops made some mess near Moskow ( pity he didn't burn it to the ashes) in 1617. russians can't stand his name up to this day.

First time Russia got its official name under Peter l around the end of 17th century from the name of Kyjivka Rus'. Before that people of this country were called ruski, moscovites etc. Kijivska Rus is Ukrainian past with its kings, queens and dukes. Eventually russians took the name and adopted it, we had the other one - Ukrainians. First time this name is mentioned in 12th century. Your beloved Germans didn't call themselves Germans till 19th century. They didn't consider themselves as a nation till the 19th century. The same is about Poles. You were vassals of the king and you fought for him, not for your nationality. The same can be said about Italy which united from many kingdoms at the end of 19th century as well. Kijiv was built as a settlement in 5th century and grew constantly. Jaroslaw Mudryj married his daughters and sons into different European liaisons: French , Sweden (ones that I am aware of). Listen, Sokrates. what I found in your link is that he was born in Subotiv, near Chyhyryn, Ukraine. His father belonged to a clan (whatever "clan" means). So? He had a coat of arms from some Polish noble origin. So? His father was Ukrainian as well as he himself.

Jarema Wisniowecki - was Orthodox and since Poles were in majority Roman Catholics and since his birthplace can't be know and since place of birth usually doesn't clearly defines one's ethnicity, still I consider him to be Ukrainian as Bogdan Chmelnickij. The fact that he fought against Cossacks for his property and status doesn't give me much respect to him, but still he , in my opinion, was Ukrainian, Matyjasz.

Thank you, Prince, I do have and know my roots. My roots lie in Kijiwska Rus, Halyckie Kingdom, Cossacks and up until now. I wonder why are you so anxious about my roots and ethnicity. Have you read "Lalka" by B. Prus, Sokrates? There is a good example how you could buy coat of arms just having enough money. Or "Count Monte Cristo" by Duma where a simple guy Dantes buys by his fortune a title of a count (Hrabiego in Polish , if I am not mistaken). Therefore, to tell about coat of arms and one's ethnicity is useless. Certainly it was prestigious at that time to have one so they bought them, even changed last names adding "-ckij" or whatever.
