Genealogy / Any ancestors of immigrants - Newman or Neumann from Suwałki [2]

The long lost story is that my ancestors lived in Suwalki, but had the non-Polish last name of Newman, or Neumann. Several generations listed in records going back as far as 1850 (great-grandparents came to the US around 1910).

I have no idea what the ethnic background of my family is, but I'd really love to know the whole history. I've read that immigrants from the Austro-Hungarian empire came to Poland for work long ago. Anyone gots the info on this?

Love / How to find a girlfriend in Warsaw? [60]

i know it will sound skeezy at first (and maybe even last ;), but i teach this stuff for a living.

i've taught men how to meet women in all kinds of countries, and have found that not being from that country is a HUGE advantage if you know how to play it.

try the language. not being fluent is even better, cos it shows you make an effort. they will love your accent. you will have stories about travel.

and women everywhere respond to the same thing. see her. try to catch her eye. walk up politely, smile, and say something like "you are lovely. my name is..."

shake her hand and look in her eyes when you introduce yourself. get to know each other. set up date for a drink or coffee.

then charm the pants off her. :)

Life / Americans in Warsaw (and things from home) [6]

I'm way stoked to be in Warsaw, and looking forward to the challenge of the language, the culture, and yes, especially the women (or in my case now, one hell of a challenging woman).

But I know also that however long I'm here (I'm taking a one-month ESL teacher's course in July, so plan on staying a while), I will get homesick for the States from time to time.

I'm a New Englander (CT) and of course a manic Boston sports fan, and there are gonna be days where I need a Red Sox game to get me to tomorrow.

So... how do y'all supplement your embrace of life in Poland with a taste from home?

Life / Decently priced gym or health club in Warsaw? [17]

There is also one really cheap, but I haven't been there and it is far from city center (Praga Poludnie - South Praga) it seems that it costs only 60zl per month.... nice!

I'm going to head over to Praga and check this one out today. Will report back... I loves me a cheap gym!

fitness platinum is TINY... but it's got weights and a good-sized exercise room, and mid-day dudes are there just to lift and take care of business. good times.

160 pln for 4 weeks.

Life / Shopping (clothes, bedding, etc) on Budget in Warsaw [6]

I need to get some essentials, like a pillow, comforter, towels, t-shirts, workout clothes, etc, and don't really feel like paying mall prices to get a towel that says Emporio Armani.

Any suggestions? I'm right in Warsaw Centre.

Law / WHY SO DIFFICULT TO REGISTER BUSINESS IN POLAND? [16]

How do I register my US business in Poland?

I have an international LLC, incorporated in the United States, and I would like to register to work with Polish companies by invoicing. Anyone been through this?
