Merged: Kochanie/Kochana addressing a group of friends???

Is it possible to address a group of friends as "Kochanie" or "Kochana"?

A polish friend of mine said that he can address a group of mixed gender friends this way? He said it is a bit like saying "My dear friends".

Is this true? Or is it mixed up?
