Study / University in Poland is too easy [68]

Many Polish students who I know did not have to work during studies, parents pay the bills. Of course not all have that option but it seems to be rather common. They also seem to have very little studying to do outside of the lectures until few days before exams when you memorize everything.

Study / University in Poland is too easy [68]

The main difference I see between what I experienced in North America and Poland was that in Poland they offered education and science. North American undergrad and grad schools are often concentrated on credentialing. The difference may sound subtle but really it is very profound.

Can you please explain what is the difference since I have not studied in NA.

News / Will economic crisis hit Poland? [38]

Why economic crisis hit Hungary so hard but not Poland?

I can provide some light on the question:

In Hungary since 2006, 90% of new mortgages have been taken in hard currency because they offered much lower interest than the forint denominated. Forint being weak means higher interest payments.

In Hungary public debt is 60% GDP whereas in Poland it is 40%. The strong Polish economy has provided the government with good tax revenues, thus kept budget deficits low.

The Baltic states, although having troubles as well, have very little public debt and public finances are solid.

The source for these blurbs has been The Economist, October 25th 2008, "Who's next?".

News / POLAND'S CREDIT CRAZE [34]

I live in an 'osiedle' that is rather new and the neighboring osiedle as well. I have always been amazed by the amount of small businesses that have popped up here and that is basically good. But what is strange to me is that in so little area, there are quite many (haven't counted but it is more than three) beauty spas, hair dressers and restaurants etc.

Overall, people seems to have things going really well, the parking lots are full of mostly new cars and the people seem trendy. Is it really like this in Poland? Do people spend a lot on eating out and beauty treatments?

Dunno if the magazine predicted the crisis since haven't been reading it that much. I just happened to read the article discussing the matter.

Study / Aviation for non-Polish in Poland [11]

Hello,

What are my chances of pursuing aviation hobby in Poland as non-Polish speaker?

I am mostly into GPL, not so much interested in PPL due to higher costs. Are there even slight possibility of attending courses in English? Where could I find more information?

Currently I am living near Wroclaw.
