Love / Polish Wedding Shoes [7]

Polish Wedding Shoes---
I have heard that back in the 1800-1900's there was some tradition of "wedding shoes" and some special signifigance connected to these shoes. Does anyone know of this tradition or custom? Thanks

Genealogy / Looking for family and/or info Surname Jewula [7]

Searching for family and/or info. Surname Jewula. town of Ostrusza. Grandfather Franciszek Jewula came to USA in 1907 from Ostrusza, his birth town. parish of Ciezkowice. Left Father, Mikal, mother (name unknown) and a brother Jan. Family made shoes. Family name is about to die out here in the states and would love to connect with any distant relations or gain any info. Thanks in advance.

Jewula, born 1886, Ostrusza, family was cobblers, shoemakers, speciality in wedding shoes. Franz. Father was Mikal, believe there was a brother Jan. no other info would appreciate any info or direction. Parish was Ciezkowice. Friends, relations with Kloc family.

Love / Polish Wedding Shoes [7]

Yes, very strange, but all I know is that the "older" people see to put a great deal of importance of the "polish wedding shoes". Just trying to figure out why and what it all means........family apparently made these shoes in Poland in the late 1800 and early 1900's. Seem to be great important "big deal", cant get any info on who or who or what. Find many strange ideas connected with weddings - like the bride dance, where everyone puts a dollar in the apron of the maid of honor to have a dance with the bride ---- her last dance with the public. Seems a strange thing

Life / "Green Day" in Poland - need information. [3]

Any information on "green day". Some significance with day of freedom or something like that. Grandfather claimed to have been able to excape induction into "Franz Joseph" army (around 1907) by leaving Poland/Austria on "green day".

Thanks. But I think that this "old" custom had something to do with a day of "Freedom" and I am pretty sure it was in the early spring. I appreciate the info and link though!

Life / Are Polish traditions dissapearing [93]

Reading your discussion of Polish traditions/customs. You all seem to know your traditions. Maybe you could help me out. Around 1907, there was apparently a tradition or celebration of sorts called "green day". I believe a day of freedom or something. I have a grandfather who was to be inducted into the "Franz Joseph" army. He was able to escape induction and leave Poland for the USA because of some traditiion on this day that allowed him to leave without question. Anyone know of this? I believe that it was in the spring, because that is when he left.
