i've been living here for over 20 years now myself. i think the country is great. health care is nice (it's a little screwed up here and there, but overall it's good), the scenery is beautiful, the people are just wonderful (it's true what people assume about us Canucks :P), but for some reason, it just doesn't feel like true home. maybe because i have such nice memories of home that i miss it so much or what i read on these forums, but i always feel like Poland is my true home, somewhere i can go and feel like i belong. i dunno.... that's just me. maybe it's where i live as well, everything seems so "Pottery Barn". hehe

Toronto has a ban just like that. there's no smoking allowed under any kind of roof. we were having cigars one night at a bar up on the patio in a gazebo, and they told us we had to move to seats which didn't have any sort of roof overhead heeh ... i think they eliminated the designated smoking rooms in establishments also.

USA, Canada / Iranian moving to Poland from Canada. What to expect? [23]

i really hope that an iranian can live in poland, what a sad day if other cultures couldn't survive there. granted i've lived in toronto almost all my life so i'm used to all different kinds of skin color, but i think i'd be smiling to see an iranian in poland. i'd say hi and start a conversation, it'd be more interesting to hear their story how they ended up there rather than being grumpy about it and just starring.

i won't be staying in wroclaw, just landing there, then we're heading off to Porajow where we'll be staying. luckily, people have told me Bogatynia has at least 3 big supermarket chains there, so i'm so happy about that. :)

my little buddy when i was growing up in poland had a polish name i think (not sure how to spell it exactly) it was pronounced 'keen-jo' i think .... still remember visiting home once and every mourning i'd wake up, open the window and see him laying outside under the window, and he'd be so uber happy when i climbed out to say good morning hehe :) every morning he'd be under that window, i miss that bugger :(

i don't advertise it all even living in toronto canada, one of the most veggie friendly cities in the world, next to new york and portland i think. i don't like being preached to, so i don't do it to others. even if someone starts spewing their shit why i should eat meat or this and that, i just smile and say "uh huh", they can't argue if i don't participate hehe

i'm going to porajów, population, 2,500 hahaha ... that small enough for ya? ;) ... it's gonna be too funny seeing how my family responds to my actions when it comes to meat and church. i'm vegan and agnostic, going to a small town in poland without eating meat or going to church (during easter is when we're going btw too), who wants to place bets how it's gonna turn out? haha

i think my family may be that odd polish family that is really accepting of how the kids think though, because the day i said "i'm not gonna eat meat anymore" my mom was like "ok", i kid you not, no comment or concern what so ever, she just lets me be.
