History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

Well what does that say about the so-called Allies? The Mossad had the right idea, get in there and sweep them off. Eichmann's pseudonym didn't help him then. The hypocrisy of the UK and US knows no boundaries. They blow with the wind when it points in a favourable direction. So it's ok for those guys to kill many and your average Joe Bloggs gets banged up for 25 years for murder? Sth not quite right there.

It acts like this if you are Scottish :) I don't have big problems with the above. My larynx is up to the task :)

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Well, there is such a thing as property law, BB. If you have the title deeds, I am sure that lawyers would be willing to have a look at them and orchestrate some kind of restitutio in integrum (restitution). You know very well that land changes in awkward ways and the need to pinpoint dates rises to the fore. Just look at Israel. By objective criteria, it should be easy to point to dates and events to show ownership but is it that easy?

News / Should Poles become a minority in Poland? [150]

Socialism is a fallacy? Geez, that's just absurd. Egalitarianism, a bit too far for me. Equality mania, also silly. Perverse concept of sexuality, maybe so maybe not. Atheism, where's your proof that God exists? Anti-discrimination, legislation and decency supports it. Security over freedom? It's a question of balance. Jim Morrison once said, "freedom exists in a school book". Global warming? With all the curries they eat, India and Pakistan are major contributors. It's another one to fool the masses. Fanatical ecologism? I don't like it either but there is sometimes method in the madness. I tolerate Muslims but not radical ones. PC insanity, well, they have superceded the realms of limitations so time to cut back on it. Still, PC has a place.

I see what you are saying but ask yourself this. Why haven't those Nazis at large been caught and brought to justice by now? Most of them are dead too.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's prevalent by any means, it's not Sicily we are talking about here. It's human nature for the most part :)

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

Let me guess, the Catholic brigade will come down on us like a tonne of bricks?! Well, many Scots and Irish are Catholics too but we find other ways of carving out a living. We know that church is often just part of a tradition but it doesn't put bread on the table or give us a magic wand to form interpersonal relationships.

Cheating? I don't go there, I'd feel guilty and for what? Temporary hedonism? Pff...

I completely echo the above by irishdeano. I don't care what any religion says, his decency is what I roll with. I don't need a book or some priest telling me how I should be living my life.

Then that's like a cult or sect. Why not just pick and choose what fits with YOUR belief system? For example, I see the merits in many religions and for that I count myself as blessed. Why be absolutist?? That's when rigidity rears its ugly head.

I regard myself as spiritual and don't follow the dictates of a church. Explain that one to me, Pope.

The RCC only promulgates the idea of togetherness for life, no guns lie in waiting for those who don't follow its dictates. Within the framework of life, Catholics do the best they can to honour principles but a multitude of factors prevent their full realisation.

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

I agree that the Polish beefs are legitimate and the wounds are still felt. Still, Poland has modernised itself and you have to go with the times.

Everything is politicised and that's what gets me. It is written in Auschwitz that we should learn and never repeat the mistakes, as you advocated. Of course I'm with you on that but the Balkans was one big mess, as was Rwanda. What compounded matters was that major institutions were behind it. The very people that should've prevented it.

I was just making the point that people pointlessly blame. Many of those Nazis are dead and gone. A missed opportunity to indict them.

I wouldn't say that the Catholic position on the sustenance of marriage is a bad thing at all. Marriage can be a convoluted process and I like the idea of permanence. Catholicism has a point here in terms of putting forward a desirable principle. How people choose to treat it is their matter.

Food / is" kaszanka" a Polish speciality? [54]

Pizza suppers, wow, there's the daily calories in a oner. Jumbo sausage suppers were legendary. The salt was often served with the sausage though :(

Thanks, Cardno :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Spitfire shoots down BNP [63]

Nice play on words there. It is well known that Poles did the jobs that most Brits were too proud to do. The Poles were pretty awesome pilots and gave their all in pursuit of their cause.

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

Yeah, it doesn't inspire much confidence at all. I don't do hangovers anymore. Time to buy some strawberry Zywiec water methinks :)

I agree but it's usually just to wet the palate. More damage could come from foods with additives or E-based substances. Better safe than sorry though, you are right.

Food / is" kaszanka" a Polish speciality? [54]

I hear what you're saying, Cardno. You look slimmer than me so you can get off with the heavier stuff. I have to watch my weight and scale back on anything with calories.

I used to do an Ozzy Osbourne when I was younger. Intensive swimming but then I went and undid it all by going straight to the Bluebird chipper (in Aberdeen, near my first uni) and pigging out on a fish and chip supper. I loved a spare rib supper once in a while too. Ozzy used to go flat out on his gym bike and then smoke a cigar and polish off a Mars bar or 2, LOL.

Please remind me, Cardno, as it's been so long. What else could you find on a chippie menu?

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

Yes, sjam, my point is crystal clear. The war ended 64 years ago, kapisz? That's over 6 decades. It took only 8 years after the war to form the ECSC. If I were a victim, I'd know it was due to a madman being allowed to rise to power and so-called experts not reading the warning signs. Chamberlain, the romantic, being first among them.

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

The tap water here is drinkable. Any bad chemicals, I surmise, would be in minute quantities and therefore able to be dealt with by our immune systems. I have never felt bad after drinking it after running out of bottled water.
